Hi everyone - not sure where to post this so apologies if its not appropriate.  I was diagnosed in April 08 with Grade 3, stage 1 her2.  I have finished my treatment which was surgery, chemo, radio and 1 year of herceptin - at the moment I share a house with my partner but this is soon to change and we are going our seperate ways - I'll need to buy something on my own and I definitely want to buy not rent..  I'm just really worried about whether I'll be able to get a mortage - I'm 36 with a reasonably good job but because of my previous diagnosis and treatment I wonder if its going to be a problem.  Does anyone have experience of applying for a mortgage after treatment?  Hope someone has some advice... Best wishes everyone

My husband and I applied for and got a mortgage last year.  At no point in the loan application process were we asked any questions about health.  The bank should use only your assets, income, and credit history to evaluate your ability to make payments.  In fact, HIPAA regulations make it illegal for any of your health care providers to release your medical information to a bank.  You are under no obligation to tell the bank about your health history.

However, you might want to take out mortgage insurance.  If you are disabled or unable to work (let's hope not!), the insurance would cover your mortgage payments.  It's a great time to take out a mortgage; you can get a fixed rate loan at about 4.5%.  Best of luck to you!
