Can DCIS feel like a ridge?
All my mammograms have shown that my DCIS was confined to one side of the breast. Last night, as I was feeling myself up as usual (teehee) I noticed that wayyyy on the other side of the breast (the "good" side), it seemed like there was sort of a ridge of tissue. Not a lump... more like a long ridge.
So my worry of the day is: Can DCIS form a shape like that??
Thanks for bearing with my worry of the day; hopefully tomorrow's worry of the day will be something I don't feel a need to post about such as "Crap, after my mastectomy, my pretty bras won't fit any more"..........

I'm not sure what direction your ridge is facing, but my DCIS tumour felt like a long blocked breast duct - which it was I suppose - so kind of ridgey I guess, where the ridge travelled from the outside of the breast towards the nipple.
A few months after my lumpectomy I went back & saw my BS in a panic - had found what I thought was a new lump - this one definitely did feel like a ridge - turns out it was the edge of the breast plate/tissue - it was more noticeable because of the tissue that had been removed.
Best way to deal with the anxiety IMO is to see your dr. ((hugs))

Hope you get an answer so you can stop worrying. I am also in Atlanta...wondering if we are using the same Dr? Have you checked out anything regarding Iodine deficiency?
-
MaryDee, it doesn't seem to be following a duct unless you can have a duct running sideways (not seemingly connected to the nipple, more like a concentric circle around it)... I'll talk with my doctor about it (although I'm sure this will persuade him that I def. need a full mastectomy rather than the partial one I'm hoping to have).
Mom3band1g, who is your doctor? Mine is Dr. Richard Fine and he's wonderful. Re: iodine, I haven't had mine tested, but I found out about iodine a couple of months ago from the girls on the alt/comp board... once I started taking iodine at the end of December, I noticed a LOT of positive changes (the "lumpiness" in my other breast started going away, plus some other non-breast-related changes). I suspect I had been iodine-deficient for many years.

crunchypoodlemama- I am seeing Jennifer Amerson with Breast Care Specialists. As far a iodine goes did you 'test' for deficiency for just start with a supplement? I would be surprised if I wasn't deficient but the more I read about it the more I feel like I need to test for it and have someone helping me with treatment. I am going to call our fam Dr Mon and see if she will do it. I have added a sea salt that does contain iodine into our diet....if I have a real deficiency I know it won't fix it but it can't hurt.

I didn't test first, mainly because I realized I had to be iodine-deficient based on a number of factors, and I didn't want to put off taking iodine until I had a chance to get tested.
I'm not familiar with Dr. Amerson but it sounds like you're in good hands!

My DCIS felt like a small credit card in my left breast. It wasn't very noticeable running my fingers across it, but the edges were more noticable.
