Hospital Infection Rates

How does one find out about hospital infection rates, for a particular hospital?  Are there any reports I can find on line, or a phone number to call? 

I am considering PBMX w/recon so I'd like to know about the precautions hospitals take to prevent infections.

Contact the hospital and ask to speak to their "Infection Control Nurse".

Kitty, excellent question.  I'd ask you PS also specifically what the infection rate is for the procedure that you're having done at your hospital.  Probably some are more honest in reporting this then others, but it is a start.

The website for my insurance (BCBS) has this information reported in the listings for their preferred providers.  Perhaps your insurance company also has this information.

You may be able to get direct information from your surgeon.  When I had an elective operation (not breast related), I asked my surgeon directly how many infections he had.  He immediately gave me the stats.
