help with my biopsy report please

My report reads:

"Cancerization of lobules is noted.  no definite invasive carcinoma is seen in this sampling.  A very rare calcification is seen within the DCIS."

I have high grade DCIS but just didn't understand the rest of the report and didn't ask the surgeon when we were in because ....well I had other things on my mind!  I know that no invasive carcinoma is a good thing!

Also says "prominent necrosis "....anyone?  Is this just all a way of defining high grade? Thanks.

Is this from your needle or core biopsy or lumpectomy?

I find the wording confusing too. "a very rare calcification seen within the DCIS". I can guess what that means, and so can you, but what does it actually mean. what was seen and what was the significance of this finding for your treatment decision making.

"Cancerization of the lobules is noted"  what does that mean?  you have lobular cancer in situ also? what is the significance of that for your treatment decision making. 

Necrosis is often associated with grade 3, but it doesn't mean grade 3. again what does it mean and what is it's signicance for you in your treatment decision making.

You weren't able to ask questions at your appt, but you have questions now. and no wonder. Rather than trying to make sense of it yourself, go back to the surgeon and if he/she can't make sense of it for you, ask for samples/slides to be sent to another pathologist. 

and you are right, no invasion is a very good thing, but you still have the right to understand what was found in your breast,

Necrosis is dying tissue composed of white blood cells, inflammatory cells and dead tissue.  You have a little bit of calcification this is common in DCIS.  Cancerization in the lobule ~ the DCIS is extending into the lobule.  The lobules are at the ends of the ducts.

You have a high grade DCIS.  No invasion.  This is the best news!
