When did you have your OOMPH
My doc told me yesterday that I needed to have 2 periods and then have it done.
My obgyn said the exact opposite-that I could do it in 6-8 weeks and had no idea what she was talking about.
I am not sure why I need 2 periods. Doesn't chemo stop you from having periods?
When did you have your oomph or did you do shots?

I stopped my periods during Chemo, but my Onc said if they started again before getting my ooph, I had to call her immediately so she could get me the shot. She seemed to think it was a bad thing. I would get confirmation on why? Maybe he thinks if you are menopausal from chemo anyhow, you don't need the Surgery...???
I had mine end of July...I finished Rads beginning of July. The only restriction my Onc had was no Surgery until 4 weeks after finishing Chemo bacause of the risk of infection....by then I had started Rads, so chose to do it as soon as I could after Rads. Iwas on Tamox from 4 weeks after Surgery, switched to Arimidex 2 weeks after my ooph.

Maybe your doc wants your body back on even keel after the baby? I'm not sure why. I had 2 periods before my ooph but that was just Lupron not working (gave me Lupron after my first period). Then I think I got one more before we were able to schedule the ooph.
I didn't get my first period for 4 months after chemo completely ended.

I had 2 periods during chemo and then had my ooph(actually total hyst) 3 weeks after my last chemo.

Chemo stopped my periods....onc did not think they would come back due to my age (50 at the time)...but he still gave me a shot of Lupron when I started on Arimidex....which was 3 weeks post chemo...the same time I started rads....I had my ooph 3 months post chemo and 6 weeks post rads....needed some time for the old body to heal. I had my Ooph done at the same time of my Bil MX. Not sure about the periods because I never got mine back after delivering my twins. I started chemo when my girls were 3 weeks old so I never got my period back and chemo kept it away.

Pure,
My period stopped right after my 2nd AC, that was Dec 2007. I strated with Lupron injections July 2008. Have had them every 3 months since. I have not had a period in 2.5 yrs.
I will be doing an ooph hopefully in the next 3-4 months. I will be meeting with a gynecologist in a week or 2.

My periods stopped after my second chemo, but I was 48 at the time. I had my oophorectomy in March 2009 at age 49.

How bad does the shots hurt-is it a huge needle?

Hello Ladies-
Pathology showed tumors were 97% ER+-- I tested for BRCA1-2 and no mutation was detected. I stopped having my periods after 2nd round of TAC. It's now been 3 months post Chemo and still no periods.
Question: How long do you wait before you know that your periods are not going to come back? I will be starting RADS this evening 6 1/2 weeks and then Oncologist wants me to go on Tamoxifen or another hormone therapy.
Also- If you were me-- would you still elect to have an Ooph because of being highly ER positive -or just be on Hormone Therapy?
Thanks, Loretta

I finished chemo and rads and then did the oopherectomy. Your right, my period had stopped anyway b/c of chemo so I wasn't having any anyway. Not sure why you'd have to have two periods.

Loretta... As I mentioned in my earlier post...chemo stopped my periods....had my last period a couple weeks before I started chemo...and started AI's 3 weeks post chemo (same day as I started rads)....so for me not enough time to see if it would return...but got a shot of Lupron (3 month shot) so I could start the AI's...it was a big needle but given in the behind...don't remember being too sore....I was happy to have my ovaries out.....Since you are just starting rads, you have time to think about your ooph....you can always do Lupron to start AI's if you decide to go that route instead of tamox...all the best to you...

My doc told me we should know within 6 months. We found out in 4

Karen-
Are there any benefits with Al's over Tamoxifen? Not too familiar with Hormone Therapies.... I do know that it's 3 months post Chemo for me and I have more hair on my face than ever before and if I sit down more than 10 minutes upon getting up --my bones and joints are achey until I start moving around..... I'm thinking it's because of the lack of Estrogen to my body????
Does anyone have problems with bone and joints after Ooph? Or After Hormone Therapy???
Thanks,
Loretta

Yes, expect achiness. If you are on an AI you will need a Bone Density test to watch for osteopenia. Are you planning on getting Zometa? That will strengthen your bones (but I still get achiness - mostly feet)
-
Kerry- I can't even imagine my bones aching more than they do now and haven't even started on the Hormone Therapy!!! Does Zometa have S/E's? I am 43 years old and can not believe how challenging it is for me to get up out of a chair!!!
I think I am going to request a Bone Scan when I see the Oncologist next and make sure nothing else is going on there.... I didn't have this issue before Chemo- so I'm just guessing it's a Chemo S/E and will soon pass! Right.....
Thanks for the info

Loretta....AI's are supposed to offer a slight benefit over tamox....but tamox is still a good medicine....and you have to be post-menopausal to take AI's. Hard to tell what is causing what...but yes, I have bone and joint pain...I pretty sure it is the AI's... Lack of estrogen does cause the pain etc that many of us feel on the AI's.... Karen
