Most woman do get some sort of se's. There is actually a theory that if you DON'T get se's you may not be metabolizing it well. It's not difinitive
Maybe ask your onc for the CYP2D6 test / Tamox metabolizing test. I think any woman who is perscribed Tamox should have the test, even if you have to pay out of your pocket
For me, I had joint stiffness ect...
You will be fine!

i am on Femara.. the first week was awful but it's now quite manageable. Not the same drug but it has many of the same side effects.

i have been taking tamoxifen for just over a year - no real issues. I get some hot flashes but not unbearable. I feel like I have to be more cautious about what I eat. But I also had a hysterectomy so both could be attributed to that also.

I have some bone aches in my lower legs and feet and joint stiffness, but nothing I can't handle.

I started Tamox the beginning of September 09, haven't really had any side effects. I do have hot flashes, but those started on chemo so I can't attribute them to the Tamox, in fact they stopped for a while after I started but since have returned some. Hoping that it's a cycle and maybe they'll go away again. No weight gain or loss, just staying the same, no mood issues either. Hope it's easy for you too. HUGS, Dawn

I started Tamox. on January 1 and so far, so good. I have hot flashes, but they started during chemo and are about the same. No other side effects that I can tell.

I started taking tamoxifen about six weeks ago. I haven't had any side effects at all. I asked my oncologist about it at my follow up appointment this week and she said that only 30% of women have side effects from the tamoxifen alone..

Hi Fighting4mykids,
I have been taking tamoxifen for the past13 months and have had few problems. I had some hot flashes during the first few weeks, but those have gone away. I do take the antidepressant Celexa, and that may help with the hot flashes. My period has gotten very light and irregular, and I just had a pelvic US to make sure there isn't anything going on. The US came back normal, no problems. My onc said the t. can cause your period to be irregular. I also had an eye exam recently, and my eyes are fine (they were looking for cataracts related to T. use).
I hope you have an easy time!!
Catherine
