CALCIFICATIONS

I've looked but haven't seen any posts concerning calcifications.

Just had my second mammogram since my diagnosis in Feb 2008.  I wasn't afraid last year, but I was this time for some reason.  Anyway, my radiologist found several clumps of calcifications in my native breast.  Because of my history with breast cancer (had a left mastectomy with follow-up chemo and radiation), she is recommending I have a biopsy.  I have a stereotactic biopsy scheduled for Feb 4.  The radiologist isn't overly concerned, because calcifications can form in scar tissue that develops after surgery.  (During reconstruction, I had a matching lift/reduction of my right side.)

Anyone have anything to share about calcifications AFTER a diagnosis of breast cancer?  I'm a little nervous at this point. Thank you.

I have calcifications in my right breast and have had them for years. However, the doctors said that the pattern of them indicates they are nothing to worry about. However, the calcifications that showed up in my left breast was in a pattern that indicated cancer. I googled calcifications and read about this when I was first diagnosed so you might want to do that as well. Fingers crossed for benign results from your Feb 4 test. I know the waiting is awful. Luckily, I was able to have my stereotactic biopsy within days.

I also have calcifications in both breasts.  I had a lumpectomy in my right breast with radiation.  My doctors wanted to 'watch' the calcifications.  I was a basket case.  Since, I have had 2 more mamos and an MRI and they both said they were simply calcifications, nothing to worry about. Of course, I worry!  I will have another MRI and mam done in February.  I think the nire tests I have done and the more times they tell me not to worry - the better.

I've heard from others who have never had BC that they have had calcifications show up on their mamos too.

Try and relax, yes, I know, easier said than done.  At least you will know for sure after your biopsy.  If you don't have one you would worry and wonder.

I had a biopsy for calcifications a year after my LCIS (and nothing worse) diagnosis(i.e. excision).  It was in a different area of that breast.  It ended up being benign (ductal hyperplasia, not atypical.)

Have you seen this website about calcifications? http://www.radiologyassistant.nl/en/4793bfde0ed53

Just thought I'd share.  Biopsy was yesterday, and the results are back already.  NEGATIVE.  Huge relief.  Thanks for sharing your experiences.
