My Dad Passed Away Yesterday
I'm feeling sad. His wife called me from Florida and told me he had died. He had Alzhiemer and was in a nursing home. Wasn;t doing well and not eating, came down with Pneumonia, then gone. I guess I'm really sad over what I never had with him. He was never there for us growing up and was not a part of my children's lives while they were growing up. Had not seen him within the last 10 years and a strained relationship. My sisters also didn't have a relationship with him either. So I just wanted to get it out. I really don't feel anything right now. Just sad for what never was.

So sorry about your dad but I know what you mean, I'm not that close with my dad either. You and your family will be in my prayers.
-
Sorry Barb. It is ok to feel however you feel and you most certainly can grieve for what you didnt have and simply the finality of it all.
-
So sorry this is what's happening. You're right, your sadness is for what never was and now never will be,
All the best,

Im so sorry Shana,
My fathers aunt, that would be my great aunt, passed from Alzheimer's. She was also a BC survivor. I was 16 at the time, but it was very upsetting. Towrads the end of her life, she didnt even recognized me or my brother. When we would come to visit she would ask us a million questions....um..hello? You changed our diapers?. So sad.
My thoughts are with you.

Barb, whether you were close or not, the finality of death is something that always takes us aback. Grieve for what you didn't have...it's all the same grief.
-
Barb - I am so sorry to hear this. I too don't have a close relationship with my Dad, but I guess at least he is still here. Thinking of you and your family.

I'm sorry Barb. Big cyber hugs to you.

Feelings aren't right or wrong. They're there and real. Losing a family member is hard. I'm sorry for your loss.
-
I'm so sorry for your loss. Close or not he was still your dad - your sadness is a combination of things and there is not right or wrong - it just is. (((HUGS)))

I'm so sorry for your loss, Barb. I think it's so hard when we grieve for what "might have been". I lost my Dad when he was 56 and I had just had my first child. I felt so cheated that my children didn't have their grandfather. I felt a profound loss of what "might have been".
Hugs to you.

Barb, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I certainly understand that family situations can be really complicated. That doesn't change the fact that he was your dad, and it makes perfect sense that you are very sad about what never was. I've heard that sometimes we have to give ourselves what our parents were unable to give to us. Give yourself unconditional love, and know that I'm sending you thoughts & prayers.....Lisa

Barb, I am sorry for your loss of your father and also for what you did not have with him.
Grieve in your own time, in your own way. Time will lessenl this hurt.
my prayers are with you.

Barb ... I'm so sorry for the loss of your father ... and the moments not shared.
I lost my dad to cancer almost exactly a year ago. In fact, the last time I saw him was this weekend one year ago. Our history was complicated, just as yours was. I grieve losing him and all the memories that I never got to have. My son lived 15 minutes from him, and they never saw each other. My dad died with my son never visiting him. It's heartbreaking.
I'm so sad, just as you are ... and the feelings are hard to identify. Sadness that he's gone and over missed chances. My sis was with my dad when he died. I asked her so many times, was he proud of me .. did he love me? And the answer was yes.
Sending you hugs and love during this hard time.
