Hello thankyou for reading this, My name is joules i have a massive family history, i lost my mum aged 44  21 years ago, my aunty 46 20 years ago and my cousin aged 40 1 year ago all with ovarian cancer.  From my cousin it was confirmed that we have the BRACA1 gene my sister is positive and i am negative, my discussion is surrounding my sister whom has two daughters both awaiting the results/ counselling for BRACA1.  MY sister recently had a double masectomy and a rebuild which went horribly wrong and is  currently awaiting a diep flap.  Pior to my cousins death my sister and i both had radical surgery hysterectomy and omphectomy as a preventative measure,

Following my sisters recent operation she had a scan  in preparation for the diep flap to ascertain where all the veins etc were, from this we have been informed that she has a very suspicious lump in her lung and is awaiting a pet scan, doctors etc are all under the impression that this is very suspicious.  I appreciate i am not the one who is affected ubnlike most of you  and i hop i dont sound patronising but i would dearly love to hear from people in a similar situation and how and what you are all experiencing and any positive information.  I am 44 and a psychiatric nurse (not very good with personal/physical things ) but feel like shit, why is thee not a magic wand, thanks again for reading this, many thanks joules x

    Joulesc,

I am so sorry your sister has been dealing with such heavy stress, especially being BRCA1 and having daughters. Please have her visit www.facingourrisk.org, for lots of support, information and increased awareness with hereditary bc/ovca.  She can also meet other high risk women who are dealing with similar problems. Knowing she had prophylactic hysterectomy/BSO for ovca prevention was a very wise decision on her part. Hoping her daughters test negative!  We also have women from United Kingdom and other countries as well. Explore the web site and the messageboards too. Best wishes.

    Lisa
