    Yes.

Sometimes when a woman has a recurrence, the tumor pathology can change or it can be the same as the initial diagnosis.

I saw my doctor today and he gave me some medical/technical info I requested about HER2 treatment. So I just read that yes, metastasis can be HER2+ when the original was not.

    Patti,

Could be a new cancer not a spread of the original.

    Hi Patti,

What a coincidence that you posted this today. I was just told today that I am Her2 +ve after a recurrence in Sept.2009 when at diagnosis I was -ve in 2006.  My kids are now in bed so I hopped on this forum to find out as much as I can about herceptin and what others have experienced.  Confused still and disappointed about treatment for another year.  The oncologist I saw today (not the Dr. I normally see) stated that it happens in about 20% of recurrences. BTW  I was ER+/PR+ at diagnosis and now ER+/PR-

Anyone else have a change in their results after a recurrence?  Is that what has happened to you Patti?

Just starting to research so any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Diane
