Need help to even out a D cup and B cup

Hi Ladies,

I had a mastectomy with diep reconstruction. My natural breast is a D cup and my foob is a B cup. Because the winter is cold here in the NorthEast, I have been able to hide the imbalance with loose sweaters.  When Spring does finally come, what am I going to do?  Does anyone have experience with breast enhancers?   

Oh and just to complicate matters, I am going to start radiation next month.  Is it crazy to think I might be able to wear an enhancer on top of my radiated foob? 

My PS says he can do a reduction on my natural breast in the summer and I can have "stage II" on my foob April 2011, a year after radiation.

Yes, you can get a partial prosthesis/enhancer to even things out.  I have one, and it evens things out very well. If you have a store near you that sells mastectomy products they can help you out and fit you for the right size.  You'll need a prescription from your onc or surgeon in order for your insurance to cover it.  I'm not sure about wearing it during radiation since I didn't have mine then.

I am a DD cup and a C cup now.  I am using sanitary pads to even myself out.  I attach it to my bra and it stays there all day.  It lifts my nipples up so that they are even.  I know this is unorthodox but it works for me.   Good luck!

I am thin, always had small breasts, my surgeries have been to the smaller side, so I am a small C and an A, insurance pays for a prosthesis every 2 years and 2 mast bras a year, a lumpectomy is just a nice term for partial mast, don't be mislead and feel like a whiner you have been thru everything everyone else has and can be fit to be comfortable and look symetrical and should. Go to a mastectomy shop and ask for their help, best of luck.

I had 2 lumpectomies (one on each side prior to my bc dx). the first lumpectomy was on my smaller boob and made it closer to an A cup and my other side was a C cup. My doctor wrote me a script for mastectomy products. I took it to the local shop and they were able to fit me with a 'filler boob' that made my boobs look more normal. the shop I used fills out the paperwork and files with the insurance. My insurance allowed 2 prost every 2 years (even though I only needed one) and 6 bras a year. A well informed shop will know what the major insurances will cover and how to code the forms. Since my DCIS dx, I had bilat with recon and haven't filed for the bras since. I did turn my prost back to the shop for their 'charity closet' for women who don't have insurance.

How do you check with your insurance? What do you ask for, when you have not had a mastectomy?  I could just see trying to explain this to someone who didn't "get" it!  

Which doctor is the right one to ask for this prescription? Surgeon? Radiation? Oncologist?

My surgeon actually brought up this question 6 months after my surgery, he asked me if I was having problems finding bras to fit. Of course I said yes looking at my mis-matched boobs. I had dealt with B-C side differences but not enough of a difference to notice prior to the surgery.  He wrote the script for me. The lady I went to wrote down my insurance information and automatically knew how many I needed. You could try calling your insurance directly and ask about mastectomy products and what they do provide. you don't need to go into detail with them. and like I said a well informed shop will know what is allowed for most major insurance companies or will be able to call while you are there and get details.
