Non Toxic Dentistry

Ok, so I had posted about needing 2 teeth extracted and being worried b/c I had my first infusion of Aredia about 5 months ago. Well, I did some research and found that I could probably have root canals instead, however, since root canals have toxic materials I researched more and found that there are dentists that use non-toxic materials. I found one about 20 miles away and made an appt. to see him. I'm so relieved!!

Never heard of non-toxic dental materials.  Wouldn't you think they would all be non-toxic?  Thanks for letting us know about this.  Well worth the 20 mile trip.

Are talking about amalgam (silver fillings)?

As for the root canals...after removing the root of the tooth they will fill it with something called gutta percha. It is non toxic.

To flush out the tooth to remove infection....Id hate to say it, but they use a bleach/water solution most times. Dont worry about the bleach, you will likely have a rubber dam on and wont swallow anything.

When the root canal is complete, they will place a temporary filling. You can have either amalgam (silver) or composite(plastic). The temporary filling is just that...temporary. Dentists will recommend a crown because the tooth has lost its blood supply. The tooth is basically dead, and very brittle prone to fracturing, hence the crown. Crowns can come either porcelin, or gold.

So glad that alternative will work for you. I'm sure that's a load off your mind and now you can keep on with your infusions. I bet you were never so happy to find out you could get a root canal! Happy dentistry!
