IDC after Masectomy

Options

I am a triple negative 3 peater!! I had surgery on Fri, doctor called today and said I have infultrating ductal again, I had a bi-lateral masectomy Sept of 08, 8 rounds of ACT chemo. How the heck do you get ductal again after a mamo, I didn't think I had any ducts left! We thought I would have 6 weeks of radiation, now my case is going back before the tumor board because it was in the pectoral muscle!!

Any input would be helpful!

Cancer can come back in any breast tissue... and even when you have a mastectomy there is some breast tissue left. Peace and health to you.   Tami

Ductal just means that it's a cancer that starts in the duct and then spreads-- infiltrates-- to other parts of the breast. So it's likely you'll find that these are cancer cells from your original cancer. Should have the same pathology as before-- it just takes one cell to be left behind and start multiplying.

It's such a bummer you're having to go through this again! I hope that the recurrence remains local and you can radiate the heck out of it. You might consider asking for a bone scan, since this cancer has been lingering since your original diagnosis. I don't know, the docs might think it isn't necessary, but it could give you some peace of mind that this hasn't gone beyond the pec muscle.

Ya those pesky cells that get left behind will get you every time! You would think with the amount of "Life Saving Poison" that was pumped through my body those cells wouldn;t have had a chance! I did have a pet scan and that is how they found this last area. It did not show any uptake anywhere else in my body, Once I see my onc next Friday I am sure I will know more. The thought of more cheno just make me want to,,,oh you go ahead and fill in any ugly word you can think of!!

Does anybody know if you can do dense dose ACT twice in 2 years and live to tell about it?

Getting ready to fight the fight in GA!
