Back to school

OK, someone tell me I'm crazy for thinking about going back to school. I am thinking about going to get my STNA (State tested nurses aid certificate), it is a 6 week course. I have worked in an adult handicapped facility a few years ago and now I'm thinking about getting certified. I really enjoyed it when I worked with the residents, I still visit them to this day. Someone stop me before I go head first into this, maybe I could even work with BC survivors. What do you ladies think?

I think that is a great idea. I was enrolled in online classes for Medical Transcription when I got diagnosed with BC. My first thought was to drop out and crawl under a rock. After discussing it with family and friends, they helped me realize that BC is only a small part of my life and that I need to start thinking about my future after it.

I stuck out classes during chemotherapy and surgery. I do not regret the decision and my new outlook on life is to live it with expectation of good things despite this difficult experience.

I hope this helps you with your decision.

Fantastic idea!  I just received my materials for my APICS Supply Chain certification.  Classes start on the 22nd and after reading the intro on book one..I'm freaking out. LOL

Thank you Hoolianama & Bugs, BC isn't whats slowing me down, I was worried that I would pass the physical. I have congestive heart failure but its not active right now, I feel great and I think I can do it. I called my nurse practitioner today and she said, Diana if you feel good go for it.

Diana ~ That is so wonderful!!  You will be certified and paid to do what is rewarding to you.  If I had it all to do over again I would have gone to nursing school.  Go for it!!

You get certified and paid for what you actually do.  I think you would be crazy NOT to do this.

You are two years post diagnosis, and my take is that you should be moving forward with the rest of your life.

Good luck.  I am sure that your skills are really needed.  And yes, I believe you should be paid fairly for what you do, but you need the certificate to get there.
