    Hi Pam,

I am so sorry to hear about You must be simply terrified, as any of us would be. Have you contacted a Naturopath? A good Naturopath can get you on a protocol. I found this directory which will help you find one in  your area.

Also, I see you are in Florida. If you are anywhere near Palm Beach, you should definitely check out Hippocrates Health Institute. http://www.hippocratesinst.org/

I wish you the best. Stay strong.

    Pam-

    You are in my prayers!

Have you checked out the Breast Cancer Protocol at Life Extension? If you go to www.lef.org. ALso,if you join LIfe Extension- they have a naturopathic oncologist and you can get FREE consults as far as supplementation. I spoke with Dr.WItt and he was very helpful.

I am in Florida, too and unfortunately the state does not license naturopaths, so it  takes some digging to find people to help. If you are anywhere near Sarasota- you can PMme.. I also believe thatthe ANnieAppleseed conferenceis thisweekend near Palm Beach and if you contacted them or checked out t he website they might have practioners to suggest.

Talk to your oncologist before trying anything that might interfere with current treatment, but look into Maitake D extract.  In a small study it has shown some effectiveness against lung and breast cancer.  Its been fairly well studied, and shown not to be toxic.  Western medicine isn't yet ready to embrace it, but its being studied by Memorial Sloan Kettering.  So far they've been able to validate that it has a pronounced effect on the immune system, but as to what result or significance requires further study.

One more idea.  There was some research that showed some women who were not responsive to tamoxifen, became responsive after taking high doses of melatonin for several week first.

Hi, Pam ~  Like MSK, UCLA now also has an entire Department of Integrative Medicine, so I think you are wise to be open to everything that's out there.  In fact, UCLA is hosting a talk next week by David Servan-Schreiber, Ph.D. and author of Anti-Cancer, A New Way Of Life, a book I would highly recommend to you.  He's a 2x cancer survivor, and UCLA calls his integrative approach "science based," which is very important.  I don't know if UCLA does long-distance consults, but I'd be happy to find out for you if you don't find a much closer facility.  Dr. Slamon, the creator of Herceptin, is @ UCLA, so some of their oncologists (his proteges) have a particular  passion and expertise for Her+ bc.

Here's some info on Dr. Servan-Schreiber's book:  http://www.simmsmanncenter.ucla.edu/

I'm new at this too Pam and I want to learn the natural way.  Deanna PM'd me two books that I am going to get so I can get a basic understanding.  I am so tired and have so much joint pain, there has to be a better way than the Tamoxifen and other pills route!  Life has to get better than this....or it's just not worth it!  HOT flashes consume me day & night!  No mojo!  No concentration!  Memory lapses! ....& the list goes on!  My onc doesn't seem to care.  That it is just something you have to live with or take more perscriptions to control!  I've searched for naturopaths, but there are none close and the ones in DC are very expensive!

Joyce (Hood) &  Pam ~  On page 23 of the "Progesterone" thread, there is some conversation about the Society for Integrative Oncology.  It sounds like you might be able to contact them to recommend an integrative oncologist in your area.

As far as finding a naturopathic doc, I wonder if you could ask at your nearest Whole Foods, Sprouts, etc., who they recommend?  Sizeable natural markets usually have a schedule of in-store presentations by local naturopathic docs or similar licensed professionals (don't know what they're called in MD), where you would have an opportunity to meet them before you make an appointment.

Just a couple of thoughts ~  Deanna
