Just found out I need six weeks of radiation and two weeks ago they put my implants in, has this happened to anyone else and what was your experience.  I know most people do radiation prior but the Dr. thought he would have gotten it all and now I'm still left with cancer. My other option is to have more surgery but no gaurantee that will work.

Sorry about your situation. I am doing radiation now with an implant. We're waiting to see how it goes. I know of 2 people who had their implants become encapsulated with scar tissue. One woman left it like that and the other took vtamin E and some other meds to break up the tissue and then had an exchange. She is now happy. I do know that the implant never drops. My plastic surgeon says if this happens, he'll go in scrape out the scar tissue and put in a new implant. So far it's been good. We'll see how it holds up. Good luck!

    Hi

I had a bilateral mastectomy in Oct 2007, implants put in Feb 2008 and cancer was found just under the skin in Dec 2008.  I went through radiation in Feb/Mar 2009.  I'd say that there is some scar tissue that has built up but it's not terrible.  That side is a little tighter and higher than the other one.  I just saw my plastic surgeon last week and he said it wasn't bad enough to do anything about and I'm ok with it for now.  I will keep a close watch to make sure it doesn't get any worse.  You should remember to massage the implant and move it around as much as possible every day.  Hope that helps!

WOW...........now im really scared. I have had implants for three years now. I got them before I had breast cancer. I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma with lobular features. yea, bla, bla, bla. I had breast sparing surgery and removal of two lymph nodes. I am waiting on one more test to see if chemo would benefit me & out weigh the side effects. I definitely have to have radiation and hormone therapy tho. My Med. Oncologist said it is perfectly safe to have with my implants. and if there is any problems with my breast we can fix it with plastic surgery. I have since learned differently. I have been staying up all night on the Internet, and I still cant make a decision. How long can I wait to make a decision? What if I decide NOT to do any of the treatments. Why cant I have it removed and reconstructed in the first place and not go through the radiation part of making my breast a potato chip and THEN trying to fix it?? sorry so long, my diagnosis is new and im scared to death. After you make the decision you cant go back, make sure its the right one. How do I know what is the right one???
