Does OHIP cover the 'good' boob after recon?
i forgot to ask at my PS appointment, but after a recon, does OHIP cover the touch up on the good boob to make it look more like the new foob? She talked about breast lifts, etc but not that there would be a cost so I just assumed that it was all covered but then I started thinking.....

I think it's all covered. Did you get appointment with Dr. Zhong? One of the things she told me is that they are building a "breast restoration centre" at UHN so among all the health care practitioners there (eg nurses etc) they all have special training so they will recognize all symtoms immediately following surgery as well. Breat recon is what they will all specialize in. They have published a booklet - it's available on line for you to check. I've signed the consent but don't have a date yet. It will be either July or September.

Yes, I checked into it and OHIP does cover a lift -- obviously OHIP likes a matching set!

I haven't seen Dr Zhong yet. I have an appt with surgeon on Monday to review MRI results, so will ask for a referral to her. I saw someone had just booked with her for March, so am hoping that I can also get in to see her in the early spring. Otherwise I might just go with Dr Wong without speaking to anyone else. But, then I think about when I renovated my kitchen and i got 3 or 4 quotes over about a year before i went ahead.... Shouldn't I do the same for my new body....
Thanks linda, good to know that I can get a matched set...
Last night i dreamt that I was at a party at beachfront home. I really wanted to swim but did not have a bathing suit. I wanted to jump in and go skinny dipping, but after removing my bottoms, I remembered about my top and had to turn back from the beach. I can not get away from it even in my dreams.....

Yes. I had an implant added to my "good" side at the type of my exchange surgery. OHIP covered all costs.

Just thinking about OHIP wanting us to be "balanced". I wonder if they would cover butt liposuction to match the reduced tummy from the recon.
-
Naah, then they would have to do something about the asses we elected.
-
but maybe it's worth asking ..... imagine the headline in the paper ... "bc women demand balace" ...... "asses refuse" ......LOL
-
ha ha ha hrf! That's a good one
!
Speaking of asses -- did anyone read the Globe's "view" on the front page of the G&M yesterday? And the follow-up letters to the editor today? We Canadians are such a bunch of political wusses compared to our southern neighbours....
Happy new Year everyone! Hope we all enjoy good health, and more hair growth for hrf, in 2010!
-
I read the "view" yesterday but we didn't get a Globe today. I guess King Stephen can do what the wants and the GG will just go along. Elizabeth May is right, we should be kicking and screaming.
Happy New Year to all.

I had a follow up with Dr. Zhong a few weeks ago. She told me that OHIP was no longer covering augmentation to the "good" breast for all her new 2010 patients - I was saddened for all new patients when I heard this news.. I am not sure about lifts. Also her resident told me that OHIP is also no longer covering tattooing. If you had started in 2009, you will still be covered. I had augmentation to my good side. I have had my exchange in September, but will be going back in the spring to exchange the implant on the good side for a slightly smaller one and a lift - I feel lucky that this will be covered. Please double-check with your surgeon.

I thought they did and that is what she told me. I decided to get treated in Brampton and ps says I have to pay for good boob. Where can I get info. That is 5K out of my pocket for the joy of having breast cancer. Can anyone help me
-
Hi
My ps did not say that I had to pay for my prophylactic recon, mine is for a mastectomy both for the delayed recon and the "other good boob". I haven't done it yet as am waiting for surgery. My PS is in Toronto and does the surgeries at Toronto General and Mount Sinai.
The case may be different for a lumpectomy.
Edited: to add that my recon is on a mastectomy
