CyP2D6 Testing, and then what.....

My onc is giving me the CYP2D6 metabolizing test. But then he said, Ok, you can have it, but what does it good to you ?

i dont know, you should know.........

What if I am a poor metabolizer, what then. I surely will NOT give-up the Tamoxofin. I still believe in it so much, but what if the test shows bad results, what difference does it make in taking the drug ????

Best

I had the test and it showed that I was an intermediate.  My onc was not too excited by it.  What she really focused on was the fact that I had hot flashes from the tamoxifen.  She thought that was the most reliable test of my tamoxifen uptake.  I am not convinced as I am also on Zoladex but being an intermediate is not bad as long as i dont take other CYP2D6 drugs.  I might get switched to an AI once ovaries are out and I recover from recon.  I get the impression that she really wants me on tamox first before an AI.

I was planning to ask my oncologist to do the test when I see her next month. If it shows that I'm a poor metabolizer then I will push to have my ovaries removed so that I can go on an AI instead. I started taking tamoxifen about a week ago and so far not a single side effect, which of course is worrying me.

Actually, I have read that intermediate metabolisers get the most hot flashes, that extensive and poor get the least. So lack of hot flashes is not necessarily a bad thing.

Carol - if you are a poor metaboliser, I would get your Ovaries removed and take an AI. Just my opinion.

Thanks KerryMac, that is so good to hear. It seems these days that I look for anything to worry about!

what is the real wording in your test, like i posted it somewhere else it said in mine only no gene mutation, but I am not sure what it means really.
