For those of you who have finished your radiation therapy, do you have to continue seeing your radiation oncologists? If so, how frequently?

Mine wants to see me every six months, then annually.

If you are seeing a regular oncologist I don't see why you would have to see him also... that is what I decided for me anyway.  Tami

I have to go every six months too. I had a lumpectomy. I must say that I am more sore now than ever. I finished rads in May. I think they need to monitor other problems as the effects of radiation last for years. (nice huh?)

I finished radiation in early June and have seen the radiologist 3 time since and he wants me to come every six months in the future.  I don't want to burn my bridges (with him) but don't see why I should go back.  1. I have an med. onc. and she can order my follow up mammograms, 2. I won't have met my deductible (hopefully) so visits will be out of pocket, and, most important, 3. he NEVER says anything, never makes a suggestion for any of my complaints, hardly looks at me.

I am anxious to feel less like a patient in 2010 so think I am going to "forget" to see him.

Mine said to come back in 9 months.  I like her a lot, but will probably not go back to see her.  I see my medical oncologist every 3 months and that seems like enough to me.  I haven't seen my surgeon since my post-op visit 9 days after my lumpectomy last February.  I too want to feel less like a patient...  Happy New Year!

My rad onc didn't suggest any follow-up since I'll be seeing the med onc every 3 months. Fine with me.

Mine saw me every six months for 2 1/2 years, and just 'bowed out' now at my December appointment. I think it has to do with how you are doing; until this checkup I always had concerns/complaints for him. Ruth
