I like to know how long it takes one to heal (being able to work in office) after removal of girly parts and one prophl. mast. with double reconstruction?

Hi Newalex,

Everyone is different as to how they will feel after a bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction.  I had mine done on July 30th.  I stayed out of work for 10 days before I returned.  I could have returned after one week but my boss wouldn't let me.  I have talked to others on this board who were off work for 6 weeks (or more) after their surgery.  I would say that you should prepare for the worst (6 weeks) and hope for the best (anything less than 6 weeks).  I'm sorry I can't be any more specific than that but like I said before, everyone is different.  Good luck with your surgery and I hope you do well.

I agree with 2new4Dee. I took off 2 weeks, but I could have returned sooner. My biggest problem was looking over my shoulder while driving(and I drive a 5 speed stick). Sitting in my seat at work was a cake walk and I even still had 4 drains. Just take it easy and work at your own pace. You will do fine!
