well went today for first mammogram dr also ordered an ultrasound. the whole time im getting mammgram tech kept saying she does not know why dr is doing ultrasound. told her i do not know why guess that just the way he does it.

so she did the mammo and said she was going to have radiologist read it so was fine she came back in and said she was calling dr to see why the ultrasound, so i am sitting therewaiting and the more i sat the upsetter i got so i walked out of room and she was talking to dr office i was crying told her i did not understand. if the dr ordered it that they sould not be quisting it  they where there to do test not make decisions about what i should have. she said she had to call and she if there was something spciecic he was looking for  well she only said that after i was extremly upset so  i left crying all the way home , guess im just being to sensitive.

i did call dr and they said they always order ultrasound then if they see something that day on mammo i would not have to have waited to have it  a week later . so partly their fault

does not help me any i am just so emmbarrest for crying about that .

thanks all for listing guess i just need to write it somewhere sheri

Sheri, There is no reason for you to feel embarrassed, When one has gone through the cancer ordeal, she becomes sensitive to the possibility of it recurring.  Health care professionals should understand this, and be prepared to help alleviate your fears.  You are not the first person to be in tears there I am sure of it.

Your doctor should have let you know that he ordered the ultrasound in case.  It was actually a great gesture on his part, he just should have given you a heads up.

    Take care....you are normal!!!!

Both my breast surgeon and my oncologist have told me that it is standard practice on all breast cancer patients to do both the mammo and ultra sound.  I personally felt more protected having them both at my first 6 month mammo.  All other sisters that I am friendly with have also had the same set up and will continue to for at least the next three years.  I don't find it odd at all that this was requested.
