The Waiting Is the Hardest Part

My youngest sister is undergoing a unilateral mastectomy right now - I told her I''m not going to the hospital, there are plenty of people there. But it's oh-so-difficult getting updates and information in the form of text messages. Should be over soon.

Thank you to those of you who have been down this road before us - my sisters and I have spent hours reading on these message boards, and several people have taken the time to write my sister personally with first-hand knowledge of their similar situation (IDC, triple negative). Her MRI was pretty good (no evidence of lymph involvement, no other sites of disease). Now just wait for the BRCA results, since she's pretty young (44) and we have a familial history.

Just got a text that the update board says they're closing... thanks for being here.

Update - she's in recovery, could possibly go home TONIGHT if she feels up to it. Initial pathology on SNB was negative. Whew. Now just waiting for the BRCA results, and to start chemo in a few weeks...
