What a great story and it points out that the UPSTF was using old information based on 20 years old information.  I wonder if that is also what they were using in articles where they were pointing out that the mammogram gives off dangerous amounts of radiation?   Was it a total disregard for the newer digital mammograms..I don't remember their opinion directly talking about the digital ones, does anyone know if they have? 

Thank you so much for the great article.  I am hoping that this stays in the media, because we as survivors need to stand up and say NO!  To what the USPSTF is doing.  As well as the health care bill because the health care bill gives the USPSTF more power to create laws that the insurance comp/government (because with this bill the government is wanting to be part of the insurance comp)..will not have to routinely pay for mammograms in women under 50.  We will be paying for needed mammograms twice..once through taxes and the next through our own pockets if we want a mammogram.

Do I think that the mammograms are the end all?  No, but they are the only thing that women have right now and the mammograms themselves are not expensive..it is the cancer treatment that is.

This Task Force seems inept. And why would a group evaluating the efficacy of a cancer screening device not include an oncologist, radiologist and breast surgeon. Our mother's, sisters, family, friends, neighobors co-wrokers DO matter. I will not let any taks force tell me otherwise. And I hope women are smart enough to see through these "guidelines".
