Hello,

Wondering if anyone is montoring LCIS with out meds.  I was daignosed in Jan 09 and my BS did not recommend taking any medications it was up to me.  I was wondering if anyone has had years of montoring without medications it would be reassuring to hear and talk with you.

Thanks,

Chris38

    Hi Chris38,

I was diagnosed with LCIS two years ago (I'm now 58) and like everyone else on this board, was confused about what course of action to take. After weighing the limited options, I decided to do nothing but monitoring. The meds definitely did not appeal to me and my physician and surgeon felt that mastectomy surgery was over reacting to the LCIS. I only have a mammo once a year and am comfortable with  my decision. However, after my LCIS diagnosis, I reevaluated my diet choices and subsequently, I've lost 15 lbs (now 130 at 5'5"), cut out a lot of sugar, and cheese, consume very limited amounts of wine, exercise more, have steel cut oatmeal with freshly ground flaxseed daily, daily vitamin, calcium, Vitamin D supplement, lots of organics, and generally try to eat better. In a strange way, I feel that the LCIS finding prompted me to get in better shape and eat a healthier diet. So, who knows what the future holds, but for now, I'm in a good place. From your post, I feel that you, too, feel comfortable with your decision, and can move forward with your life and not be consumed by this disease 24/7. Good luck to you. Pat

I was recently diagnosed with LCIS, and the oncologist I went to see seemed shocked when I told him I would think about taking the tamoxifen he said I should take. I have an appt. in April at Sloan Kettering. It is good to hear that people choose different options. This isn't something you want to make a mistake about.

Thanks Pat for your post!  It was sooo nice to see and hear that i am not alone with just montioring.  I really am overweight my next step after the hoildays is to try to lose weight.  I am 70 pounds overweight and i know with this daignosie they say low carbs and low surgar.  Again thank you for your advice.  Its been a long year coming to this decision after hearing i have lcis but at 39 its hard to say goodbye to my breasts when they dont consider LCIS CANCER.  Well keep in touch.  I have been doing mammos every 6 months.  My next one is in January.

    Thanks

    Christine
