Positive Stories Of Just Close Watch For ADH
Hi Ladies !
So, this past Monday, was told I have ADH. I had a core biopsy, and will have excisional on dec.16. I have no fam history, but I do have dense breast. .BS said that @ 37 not sure if she would recommend TX right now. I was just wonder if there are any women on the fourm that only have the ADH and have taking the close screening route and for how long? this is such a scary thing! I Don't know if I should focus more on the 20-25 percent that do go on to have bc or on the 75-85 percent that do not ever get it. would love to hear from long time screeners. Thanks In Advance!

Nipi------I'm a "long time screener". It has been over 6 years since I was diagnosed with LCIS (a step further along the bc spectrum from ADH with double the risk); my risk is further increased by family history of bc (mom had ILC). I have alternating digital mammos and MRIs every 6 months, breast exams on the opposite 6 months and took tamoxifen for 5 years (now take evista--I am now postmenopausal). My situation is much different from yours, but I do have a friend who couldn't tolerate tamox, so she is doing just close monitoring for her ADH, and is doing well after 3 0r 4 years. Praying they find nothing more serious during your excisional and that you get good results soon.

Anne,
Thank You so very much for your responding. I am happy to hear you are so far so good.!! The fustrating thing about all of this other than being told you have it, is the mixed answers about it. From reading online you have some people who call ADH pre cancer, and some who say it is just a higher risk for development in my lifetime. This makes it hard as to what to do. If in fact it is pre cancer that sounds and is a little
bit more of a concern than as my BS put it , "Out of 100 women, 5 will go on to have BC, with ADH " Out of 100 women 19 will go on to have BC."
when it is put in prespective that way, it sounds like SUPER CLOSE follow up with exam would be ok . WOW! so very much to think about. Again thank you for your prayers and sharing your story and that of your friend.

Nicole,
Just today I had my bi-annual mammogram because of ADH, been two years now. Other then screening every six months, I have not elected to take anything such as Tamoxifen. Bummer is with the holiday the radiologist is on leave so I will not get any news for two weeks. Yes, the hospital only has one radiologist....small town.

Hi Kyle!
I know waiting can be a pain! I will pray that your results are the same as six months ago, and continue to be. I have to wait until dec, 22nd to find out where to go from here. It is nice to chat with people in the same boat. Good luck to you, and I will be following how you are doing. Thanks for the post:)

Nipi,
I know I have talked with you via PM but thought you and maybe others would benefit by knowing that my ADH dx was a little over 10 years ago and I have gone from bi-annual exams with my BS to annual ones...that is until now. As you know I am scheduled for an excisional bx on Friday 12/4. My BS is very good and has always gotten back with me with any concerns very quickly so I'm hoping for the same with this pathology report. The waiting for the surgery has been a bear but my philosophy is to stay busy...so that is what I will do. Good luck to all.
