How to get tamoxifen test if onc won't order it or outside of US

Since many are wondering how to get this test performed if their onc will not agree to it, or if living outside of the U.S., I contacted Genelex - a company the provides the tamoxifen metabolizer test.

It turns out that this company does not require a doctor's order.  Just go to their website http://tamoxitest.com/, send them some $$ ($300) and they will send you a swab kit.

I am sure most of us would feel most comfortable with Mayo performing the test instead of a for-profit company - but I assume that Mayo would require a doctor's order - In my view, the Tamoxitest is much better than no test.  I have no reason to believe their test is not legit.

Update:  I will be seeing a new onc on Dec. 16th who apparently has already helped some women in Canada get the CYP2D6 test done.  For those of you in the Toronto area, her name is Dr. Ellen Warner.  She weighed in on this topic in a recent Globe & Mail article, plus had a conversation with my GP since then......turns out they went to school together .  In both cases her opinion is that this test is important for anyone on Tamoxifen.  I'm quite excited to meet her and move forward on this.....finally!!  I will post more info after my appt.
