Separate Forum for Bisphosphates

Since so many women are on bisphosphonates, I think it makes sense to start a forum for this topic, just as there is one for chemo therapy and one for hormonal therpy.  Right now, bisphosphonate use is discussed mostly the hormonal forum, but also discussed in the Stage III and other forums.  But with many women enrolled in the bisphos trial for reduction of recurrence, discussion of the ABCSG-12 trial, and use to treat and prevent osteoporosis (a potential problem even for HR negative women that were thrown into menopause during treatment - who might not be visiting the hormonal forum), maybe it is time for this class of drugs to have a forum of its own.  It would make it easier to find information instead of searching accross many forums.

    Great idea Orange1,

There have been a lot of threads on this and I think some of this valuable info is getting lost. This would be a good place for women to report in on their progress, ask questions and post new research as it comes out from the various trials.

My oncologist prescribed the Zometa for me off-label in June of this year, before I started on Arimidex. Both he and  the other oncs at his  NCI teaching/research hospital are enthusiastic about Zometa to prevent recurrence and strengthen bones in early stage BC patients. They also believe it may be standard of care soon.

I am postmenopausal and taking Zometa twice a year, according to the results of the  Austrian trial recently reported on at ASCO.  I am not enrolled in the Bisphosphonate Clinical Trial which has a higher dosing protocol.. After my first infusion, I had no SE's. I hope that continues.

I  had a bone density scan which came out negative for osteopenia, so I was surprised when my insurance finally approved the Zometa. (It did take three appeals to my insurance company from my onc's office to get that approval!)
