hi girls,

i am worried about getting lymphadema.  i have read things about preventing it like, do not wear tight clothing, jewlery, etc.  just was wondering if lying on that arm while you slept would cause it?

thanks

    I don't think so.

However, I sleep with like a princess....with arms propped on pillows, with one also under my knees...just in case.

I think it is a good idea to elevate the affected side whenever possible.

And, my precautions are not medically supported...it just "makes sense" in a a common sort of a way.

I have woken up a billion times sleeping on my affected side.  Complete axillary dissection in September 2005.  So far...no lymphadema.

I am also very careful with the arm (wear gloves when gardening), etc.

Regular exercise (I have a rowing machine) is also probably good for it.  (Just be sure you have completely healed from surgery before beginning any exercise routine.)

You should post on the lymphedema section, lots of knowledgable women there.

I think worrying about your sleep position is just a bad idea -- you need to sleep.  I have never heard of anyone getting LE from a sleep position.
