Periods - Who's having them?

Ladies I am really, really curious....

1.) Have your periods returned? Are they on and off again?
2.) Are they like they were before or different?
3.) Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
4.) What do your Dr.'s think of this?

I haven't been able to find much about this topic when surfing the net, but I just know if I share this thought with my "sisters" that the wealth of knowledge that is out there will help me understand, and know what to expect.

Thanks a bunch... and hugs to you all.

Me:
They stopped from Sept 06 to Sept 07 (Chemo Sept 06 - Dec 06 DD AC/T) age 42
They started Oct 07 to Dec 08
They stopped from Jan 09 to Sept 09
They started again Oct 09...

They are like they were before.
I feel neither worse or better for having them.
Dr.'s felt they were a good thing (but I didn't ask her why)... I know I should have.

DX 10/06, 49 years old,  been on bcp's for 19 years, found out I had cancer so quit taking them.  Had 1 more period then nothing for 7 months, had another period and nothing for 10 months and last had a period after 11 months.  I feel fine and think they are almost done.  I also had a transvaginal ultra sound and endometrial biopsy along with Paps and they all checked out fine.  I didn't do chemo, just rads and tamoxifen.   Hope this info helped you.

    Take care,

    Nancy

Yes, this all very interesting to me... I know that for some women once they've  had chemo - that's it.  And for others it's a big question mark?  I don't think very much has been written about what happens afterwards for those of us who do get our periods back.. like do they return to normal cycles, or are they on/off again?  Are there accidental pregnancies because of this?  Are there things we should watch out for?  Is it a good or bad thing to have them (or does that depend on your er/pr status)? Does getting them back increase or decrease future risk in any way?  Does getting our periods back indicate a healing of sorts?   What is happening at a cellular level if someone has them return vs. someone who doesn't get them back?  What is menopause if you don't have periods for a year, then have them for a year and then don't again... is this unmenopause a'la chemo cocktail recovery?

I'm just throwing these questions out there... any ideas, wisdom, thoughts or learnings would be wonderful to share.
