hi girls,

i lost 40% of my hearing last december due to meneire's disease.  i just finished my last chemo tx and was wondering if chemo can make you lose your hearing.  i feel my hearing is much worse now. also i talked with a girl on the boards and she said tamoxifen can also make you lose your hearing.  has anyone gone through this or know anyone who has?

thanks,

diane

    Dmp,

I sent you a private message.  I didn't see your message to me until now.  I didn't realize you already had your chemo.  What type of chemo did you have?  Have you expressed your concerns to your oncologist?

I have problems with ringing in my ears even from tylenol, so was very reluctant to do chemo.  Did you discuss this with your otologist?  Maybe the Meinere's more severe?

I know how difficult hearing loss is and my heart goes out to you.

    Hi Diane,

After completing 6 tx of T/C, I now have "clogged" ears and cant hear very well.  Sometimes if I hold my nose and blow hard my ears will pop and it makes my hearing a little better for awhile....then they clog back up and the cycle starts again.  I am sure this is from chemo because I did not have this problem prior to chemo.

I ran a temp of 99.9 during my first chemo.  Now after the TACE, I have run a 99.9 to 101 temp in the evenings.  Running a temp causes my ear wax to do funny things with my hearing.  Could check that out, too.

I remember once during infusion both of my ears popped at the same time!  It scared me!  But that was all that came of it.

Sorry about the hearing thing.  I think chemo has effected my eye sight more than my hearing.

    Ruth
