Why the Active Topics Feature?

It seems that the problems created by this feature far outweigh the convenience it might provide. The different forums are clearly delineated. One can progress from worried to seeking diagnosis to specific diagnosis, treatments and stages. The Active Topics feature encourages readers to jump around and to chime in on boards in whch they have no expertise or in which their comments and questions are considered by some to be inappropriate. This goes both ways, people with less severe diagnoses posting on the boards of those with more severe diagnoses as well as people with invasive cancer routinely answering questions posted for example in the DCIS board with information and advice based on their own diagnostic tests and treatments which are not recommended for or sometimes even FDA approved for DCIS.  While removing this feature will not stop inappropriate posting or the perception thereof! it will require some awareness by the poster of what board they are actually posting in. And frankly, what difference does it make if the last posting was 5 minutes ago or 5 hours ago? the last active post is highlighted on each of the boards.
