Need to make a decision
Quick background - had a left breast mastectomy on Sept 16 with immediate T/E. I've had one 50 cc fill to date. I am completely freaked out over the possible loss of muscle strength given the expander and implants are put between the muscle and the muscle are thinned during the expansion process. I also am very worried over possible implant restrictions on the type of movements that will be restricted by having implants (sports etc).
I am very much leaning towards having the expander removed and hope that my muscle will return to it's normal position and I can put this behind me.
I am small breasted but having one mastectomy means that going commando is not an option or me. I've tried it and it is definitely noticeable. So while my expansion process is going on, I picked up a silicone implant from Walmart that just happens to match my other breast perfectly. I've been wearing it with tight tops, lower cuts tops etc and the match is incredible. If I decide to remove my TE, I will have one custom made.
I have tried on all my clothes and the only items that I own that do not work with the silicone are my bathing suits. I will get a mastectomy bathing suit . .. no big deal.
So I'd like to hear from others who have had a single mastectomy and are wearing either silicone or some other type. Does it bother you? Any issues I should be aware?
I'm just trying to get all the facts before having my T/E removed.

I wear one silicone form and don't have a problem with it, with the exception of bathing suits. Also, as I've gotten older, my remaining breast isn't as perky as it once was, so I need to look at getting a new form that is not as firm as the one I've been using for the past twenty years. I, also, think it's actually easier to have a bilateral, since you are more comfortable when you want to go formless around the house or when you go out.

Hi Mantra,
I am in the process of trying to decide if I want reconstruction or not with my soon-coming left breast maste. I'm leaning toward not doing it now and deciding later. I notice that you and I have similar "stats"...DCIS, stage 0, 1 cm, etc. Why did you decide to have the mast.? If I go thru with it, it's MY choice. I'm opting out of the rads and Tamox. 'Just wondering why you had the mast.
Was your mast. experience bad?
