I just read about Breast Specific Gamma imaging. Does anyone know if it is available in Canada?

I don't think so. I don't think it's widely available in the States either, but I could be wrong. My understanding is that it takes the place of a breast MRI, which most women don't get anyway. I do know though, that it is quite a bit less expensive than an MRI, but not as cost-effective as a mammogram.

I suspect that Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto will have one very soon.  The company that manufactures it will want it to be in as many top cancer research centres as possible, so that more research studies on its effectiveness can take place.

And if not PMH, then Sunnybrook....

    Cheers, Linda

Thanks Layne for that info. I've read it gives the detail of a breast MRI at about 1/20th the cost...so hopefully they'll be widely available sooner rather than later. I have to check out their site and find out the cost of the machine....I'm curious.
