Endometrial Hyperplasia -- Or is Aunt Flo Back?
Hi ladies,
After experiencing clear vaginal discharge (sometimes wetting my pants) and increasingly painful breast and mastectomy site, I finally went to see a gyno today. I am one year out from chemo (mastectomy in July '08). I have not had a period since the mastectomy. I am not taking any hormone therapy.
The gyno did a vaginal u/s and said that I had hyperplasia. She wanted to do a biopsy -- under general (I live in Lithuania now). I asked if there weren't any blood tests she could do before that, but she seemed totally clueless on that point.
Has anyone had menses return after one year? Did you have these symptoms: bloating, painful breasts, discharge?
Thanks for reading.

Hi, MamaShift. How old are you? My period returned 9 months after chemo, when I was 40. I thought I was too old to get my period back, but I did. I actually didn't have any PMS symptoms before it started up again.
I just had a pelvic u/s done b/c I'm on Tamoxifen and my gyn likes to do them to check for endo hyperplasia. My endometrium was 12 mm, which my gyn wanted to biopsy, but I talked him out of the biopsy b/c my period was due to start the next week and everything I read stated that 12mm was in the normal range for menstrating women at that point in the cycle.
Did you get a endo measurment from the u/s? That might give you a better idea if you truly have hyperplasia or if possibly your period is getting ready to start up again. Also, you could wait a couple of weeks to see if your period does indeed start, and if it doesn't, then go ahead with the biopsy.
You really shouldn't need to be under general anethesia for the biopsy, though!! My biopsy was going to be done w/o any sort of anethesia, not even a topical, so I can't imagine why you'd need to be totally out.
I am part Lithuanian, BTW--wave at my distant relatives for me while you're over there.

Hi Nash,
I think every other person in the US has Lithuanian heritage!
Anyway, I'm 41. My lining was 13 mm.
Yeah, I guess I'll just wait and see the results of the Pap and whether my period starts. My breast area really is painful. If I have to do a biopsy I guess I'll head for France or the US. Unfortunately, things are still a bit primitive around here.

See, we're almost endo twins. I'm 41 and mine was 12mm. I bet your period comes roaring back any day now. Keep us posted!

Endo twins. :-))
Nothing yet. I feel like crap. The discharge is still there. My boobs did start feel better a few days ago, though. But I've got funny abdominal pains. My gums were bleeing profusely this morning. I guess I should go get a CBC.

Hmm, wonder if your platlets are low??? Did you call the doc?

I went into chemo induced menopause for about 9 months, had a period for 4 months, and now they've stopped again (diagnosed at 38). So I think it is quite possible, but if you have any concerns, make your docs do all they can to reassure you.
