I just need to vent for a minute.  Or two.  Or three.  Please feel free to join me!

I'm originally from Louisiana and have come to South Carolina for my surgery and follow up treatments at MUSC.

Before I left Louisiana, I submitted a temporary forwarding here for my mail.

I received a phone call about a week ago from a radiology group in Louisiana wanting to know if I would like to work out a payment plan for my balance owed.  What balance?  I had not received any statements from them.

Apparently they must have one of those "do not forward" on their outgoing mail.  What a crock of u know what!!!!  How the heck am I to know who I owe if these companies don't want their bills forwarded???

I had a similar situation with one of my credit cards.  I had realized that I hadn't received the most current statement and must be about due for a payment.  I called them about it and sure enough, another darn "do not forward".   I can at least somewhat understand a credit card because of theft.  I managed to get them to remove the late fee but the dang company increased my minimum amount due by more than triple the amount!

Now, I'm waiting for a check from AFLAC.  I guess that's not going to arrive because of another "do not forward".

*sigh*

The last thing we need when we're going through treatment is financial mix ups and stress.  Can you maybe call the credit card company and play the cancer card, so to speak?  Taking off the late charge was a step in the right direction, but if you haven't been late before, it seems that someone should be willing to reduce that interest rate for you if the problem stemmed from undelivered mail, which they should have had returned to them.

I don't know what the larger answer is re. mail forwarding.  I just remember that it was so hard during chemo to keep track of household bills, etc., and I actually missed a couple of payments just because of misplaced and forgotten bills.  So I can empathize with what you're going through.   Deanna

    Hi Deanna,

I did inform them that I was out of state being treated for cancer.  I don't think the interest rate went up, just the minimum payment even though I had no new charges on the card.

Since they ticked me off like that, I had gotten a good transfer offer from another credit card that I've had for a long time.  So, I moved the balance from the "bad" card people to the "good" card people.

Something else that I didn't like with the "bad" card.  They did not offer automatic drafts from my checking account for payments.  I'm done with them.
