Sweet, glad things went well today. Rest and be gentle to yourself.
Welcome Redhead and Nisa. I wouldn't say that I like exercise but I do like to eat. Ha ha!!!
Pat01 and Wonderland, love the photos. Thanks for sharing.
No exercise for me today, rest day. Happy Friday ladies.

Welcome newbies. I'm relatively new, too. Since I have a lot of weight to lose, I really like this forum. I sort of feel like I get to hang out with the "cool" kids and no one judges me! I did my 2 mile walk outside today. Tomorrow is rain, so might do the treadmill instead. Singles are tolerable and improving. Thanks for all your kind words.
-
hahaha! I think this is the first time I've ever been considered a 'cool' kid. Thanks so much cdelv! You just helped negate at least a fraction of the long-lasting growing-up damage to self-esteem that we all experience to some extent or another
. A two mile walk is a great workout so you just keep at it girlfriend! -
cde, did you mean what you typed, 'singles are tolerable and improving'.....or shingles? LOL.
Speaking of singles, Wonderland, how are we going to get your DD & my DS together so that we can be mother-in-laws together?
-

Found this and thought it was appropriate for us all. Red I was a red head too and this is the girl I take Sh'bam and Body Jam with and as you can see she's also a red head. Sweet glad the procedure went well. Ann hope your shoulder is doing better. Odie I went to the walk in and got some antibiotics so the ear is getting better but they aren't doing wonders for my stomach bleah!!!!! Rest day for me today.
-
I read the last 5-6 posts and was making mental notes to write comments or thank people. And now all my mental notes evaporated! Mid-night in West Coast. Reporting 3.1 miles on the elliptical but like to write 5k because sounds bigger and better!
-
Cheryl, hope the meds took care of your painful ear. A rest day for me yet went to the gym this morning for coffee and to meet up with pink pilates women for a pow-pow of organising our fundraiser. This is really going to be something special!
-
Lisa, glad the exchange went well. Rest and heal! I'm with you on being tickled to be one of the "cool" kids. Thanks cdelv! Glad the shingles isn't too bad.
Nisa, I have a hard time keeping those mental notes, too! No offense to anyone but I can't remember jack without writing it down.
Walked Thurs night but not Fri. Helped mom buy a new TV - got a great deal, wow the prices have really come down - and we also found a bookstore where we whiled away an hour. Hung out with mom for a while and had a beer, then drove home and sat on my front porch and had another beer whilst enjoying the evening.
Relay for Life is tonight and I'm signed up. Will walk the Survivor's lap in honor of my mom and all of us. There are at least a dozen BCO sisters I've loved & lost and will walk a lap in their memory. ♥

WARNING!!! Deep thoughts/emotional moment!!
Just finished today's C25K training. I NEVER believed I could run/jog for this long. As I jogged today and finished the first long set I was struck with the realization that (for me) my lack of athletic ability all my life has been mainly a mental thing. I was sure I couldn't, so I didn't. Starting out slowly has helped me gradually see that I can. I was quite sure this morning that I would not be able to do the big increase in run time on today's schedule. As I jogged along I heard a voice (The Voices???) reminding me that I survived an abusive childhood. I survived a medical issue. I survived a difficult job. I survived (thrived!) going away to college where I knew no one. I survived caring for my abusive dad as he struggled through dementia, multiple strokes, then died. I survived cleaning out his hoarder house. I AM surviving BC. I AM surviving very difficult marriage problems. I AM surviving hearing loss. I AM surviving my family being far away.
DARN RIGHT I CAN FINISH THIS RUN!!!!
So if you are reading/lurking on this thread feeling like you can't.....YOU CAN!!!!!!
-
Dulci - What an awesome accomplishment with your running - you are so 'cool'! Thanks so much for sharing the painful life events - it's a good reminder that we are not meant to give up. We are genetically made up to get back up when we get knocked down, it's just human nature to survive despite difficulties. Your last post is a terrific pep talk for ANYONE who doesn't think they 'have what it takes' to do any running. God bless you dear!

I will never again pooh-pooh mall walking after yesterday's trip to Ikea! I actually hate these places, but the major practical item I need in my new place is a wardrobe to increase my closet space. I had an early AM meeting in that general area, so swung by afterwards. My half hour planned turned into 1.5 hours. But well worth it, as the one I ended up with is much more handsome, more functional, and $100 cheaper than what I had initially thought would work. It fits the space perfectly, and will give me 1.5x the amount of closet space I had before. My work wardrobe will fit entirely in it, plus a lot of other items on the shelves!!!!!!!!!!!
It took a lot of walking to get from the entrance to the delivery place with my new wardrobe. Not to mention that I walked completely around the place as went the long way around looking for the entrance. As I had a day that was beyond busy otherwise, I counted it as my mile walk. I think my biggest achievement was buying NOTHING ELSE other than elderflower syrup for summer sodas.
Other thing I did (other than setting up a mailing that I will finish tomorrow) was attending a glassybaby roadshow, which is benefitting the nonprofit I do work for. So fun to watch the glass blowing, and I bought another one for my collection. (glassybaby makes holders for tea lights, and donate 10% of the selling price to nonprofits. Not cheap, but unique and gorgeous.)
I can't wait to have my clothes organized and be able to FIND my work items. Right now, it's jammed and jumbled together. And I will get good use from my ironing board which arrives Tuesday. I do have to find my friend who agreed to help me out. He was the one who left after the first half of the move, and owes me. I will spring for beers and meat pie at the pub next door.
Bicycle ride to the Japanese Garden at the Arboretum planned for today, and then a trip into Seattle. Nothing too taxing, but will keep my fitness level where it needs to be. So about 20 miles. Tomorrow's ride will be easy too, as fitting in around the mailing.
Loving the new bicycle rack that I installed the other day! Now, to use it more often and fumigate my car. Especially since it now reeks of chain lube. I wonder if carpet stain remover will work here???? - Claire

Attawoman Dulci - DARN RIGHT is right!! ♥
-
Dulci.....didn't expect to be wiping away tears while reading this thread....but that is exactly how your message affected me. I feel quite privileged now to "know" you, and that you shared those emotions and thoughts with us.
DARN RIGHT YOU CAN.......DARN RIGHT WE ALL CAN
-
Dulci ... You rock and are a great inspiration! Ruth ... LOL! Yes, I meant shingles. I'm blaming it on autocorrect.
Today I walked an extra lap - so 2 1/2 miles for me

You are all awesome

-
Woke up to a cold, miserable day with a cold, miserable forecast. Did 45 minutes on the treadmill & a 30 minute pilates DVD in the "BAAA, I just want to get this over with' spirit.....now to come on & read Dulci's great post, which reminds me of this poem (we will change the gender to 'she' for our purposes):
“If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win, but think you can't
It's almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you've lost,
For out in the world we find
Success being with a fellow's will;
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you're outclassed, you are:
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can.”
― Walter D. Wintle -
Darn right you WILL (((Dulci)))!

Kicked ass in Triple Fat Burner class this morning. Only a few one armed jumping jacks this time - left arm getting stronger!
Half a mile fast walk on the treadmill waiting for class to start. It was pouring rain here but now it's clearing so out in the yard I go, hoping to get clean up done in at least one of my big beds out front. Went food shopping after the gym and picked up all I think I will need after Tuesday's infusion. Heard about this limited diet which might help with SEs, so I'm going into this second infusion with a hopeful and positive approach. Have a wonderful Saturday ladies. -
Dulci - forget the darn - damn right you can!! Damn right we all can!! A lot of times we look to others for inspiration, yet in a way it seems the best inspiration comes from within. Knowing what we've survived and conquered in the past gives us confidence in ourselves that we can get through whatever challenge we face now. The older I get, the more I find I can gain strength from my past. I think we all rock!!!!
Just finished the first Mow 'N Sculpt of the season, preceded by a half an hour of Bend 'N Sculpt to pick up all the sticks in the yard from the winter. Started the annual process of opening the pool - we have a cover on it, and still somehow every winter a million leaves get under the cover and layer themselves on the bottom. May treat myself to a nap this afternoon - I have a 10K race tomorrow morning, and want to be rested and refreshed. The temps are predicted to be in the high-40's at race time - perfect running weather for me!!
-
You girls are AWESOME!!!
Guess I was "thinking out loud" earlier. How nice to come back on and see the encouragement.
Oh...and Natsfan..."darn" was strong language for me. Lol. Would've been in big trouble for saying it growing up. Even felt a little naughty typing it up there! ROFL!!!! I sure agree with you. The older I get, the more I know "I can get through THIS, because I got through all of THAT!"
And it always helps to remember that Footprints in the Sand story.....not walkin' through this on my own strength!
-
Dulci, very beautiful and thanks for sharing. So now I have to go out and get those new running shoes instead of the walkers I was planning on (or maybe I'll just get both!) I can at least train to run again up until I finally decide to replace this hip!
Got out this morning and walked some errands. Have over 10,000 steps again. Also signed up on loseit.com for some of their challenges so that will further help to keep on track. Never been one for much self-esteem but I'm really feeling good about myself - finally.
Nats. I remember how great it was to be in your pool last year.
Later my sculpted friends.
-
Brava, dulcigirl!! I totally agree that so much is mental with running. Having the right kind of music also helps.
(((((Badger))))
Ruthbru, it is only yoga if you lie on all sides.
Today's exercise was Zumba, some weights then a walk with DD and DH.
-
I can lie on all sides, so it must be Yoga!
-
Dulci - apologies for all my past, present and future droppings of the 'F' bomb and any other vulgarities or coarse language in my posts
. I'm not likely to stop, but I think you'll be a new 'voice' in my head as I type.....lol! -
Ha!!! Sweet!!! No worries!!! My censor button is only self-imposed.
-
Love your honest post, Dulci. Yes, we all can do it - whatever our "it" is!
Nats: Good luck tomorrow!
Bad weather came through yesterday but luckily we didn't have the tornadoes that eastern NC had. Thinking about all those people who suffered injury and property destruction.
Beautiful today. Walked/jog late this evening.
Edited to add: Welcome newbies!!!
-
Dulci, appreciate your honesty and am guilty of self limiting in the athletic department myself.
Hope you have a great run tomorrow Mary.
Exercise today consisted of lots of walking while running errands including weight lifting helping hubby pick up sheets of drywall for our bathroom renovation. Then I came home and tore down the old drywall. Personally I did not find it nearly as enjoyable as they make it look on HGTV. Tomorrow we will be hanging the new drywall. As I have picked out all the furnishings for the new bathroom, hubby has expressed concern that it may be the nicest room in the house when done.
-
NatsFan Mary enjoy your run in optimum conditions. Odie, I'm impressed with your reno abilities.
Ran 10.1k this morning
-
Dulci, I'm a little late in commenting, but how appropriate that I read your wonderfully insightful and inspiring post this morning, the morning I ran my first ever (drum roll please) 5K! Not THE 5K, but a training run. It was slow and it was hard. but I did it and now I know I can "go the distance!" I too, have always thought of myself as very nonathletic. Here I am 58 years old and would you believe that I tried running 20 years ago, got up to 1 mile and quit due to knee pain? I figured I was too old to take up running and didn't want to damage my 38 year old knees - HA!
-
Yay, Annie!!!!! Our first is in 2 weeks!!!!
Thanks for letting me know it's possible to finish! Lol.
-
Excited to hear about all the great exercises!!
Here is a little game we can play on the side:

Since I am still in my nightgown, wearing no pants at all, I guess my band's name would have to be 'Naked Chocolate'!
