scared, found lump mastectomy site

I used to be a member here 4 years ago.  I had 6 surgeries in a year, and chemo.  I lived in the chat rooms here, and I couldn't have gotten through it without all the people that were here.  II will always be thankful for that.  I am very glad to see that there is a lesbian board now.

I am scared to death.  Last night, I found a lump on top of my sternum/ribs where my mastectomy was done.  I have called my doctor and she is out of town.  The nurse will call me back today some time.

I am a smoker, and have tried multiple times to quit.  So far, I haven't.  So if it is cancer, I have that guilt to cope with.

I have an aquaintance who had a double mastectomy and reconstructions, then got a lump on the ribs and had to have it all taken off, more surgery and chemo and radiation.  So I know it can happen, and I guess that scares me the most.

No one is in the chat rooms.  I don't want to tell anyone here except my partner, in case I am scared for no reason.  Is there a best time when people are in the rooms?  Please tell me they are still in use.

    Thank you

    Janjen,

Do you have any news since Wednesday about your lump? Did the nurse call you back?

    Tavah,

Yeah! I went to the doc today, and she says the lump is not cancerous.  It's just a fatty tumor that has formed along the scar from the mastectomy.  What a relief!

I have forgotten a lot of the acronyms, but from what I am seeing on your post, you have a 6cm tumor that hasn't really been staged so far?  I hope the best for you!
