Just Diagnosed with Bone and Lung Metastasis
I guess you can say I am in shock. Almost 5 year survivor, IDC, mastectomy, chemo, arimedex and feeling fine.
My 6 month tumor marker test went from 18 to 66. Repeated it 1 week later and went to 77. Had Pet Scan Saturday and oncologist just called to say I have cancer in Bone and Lung.. WTF.
Going to appt tomorrow at 3:00pm - Please any information, encouragement would be so helpful and what do I need to do now. What treatments am I looking at?
Thanks so much for any input. I am now pouring a large glass of wine..

Crap Kirby....sometimes they do biopsies to confirm the mets.
Often control is acheived with initial chemotherapy...usually a Taxane...like taxotere, assuming you are still HER2 pos they will restart herceptin and very likely you will be put on Zometa.... a bone builder which is helpful to slow the bone mets down.
There are some threads going in the mets section for liver mets and bone mets.
Gather your info and give it your best.

Dear Kirby, That's horrible. I wish there was something I could do or say that would make you feel better. When I found out about my mets., I hopped into my car and drove across the country. I didn't even have a change of clothes with me, just my purse. I checked out of reality for awhile. I became a full-time tourist. Then I realized it was time to go home and face the music.
Then one day I found this site, and everything changed. I realized that our stage is now treated like a chronic disease. Many of our stage 4 sisters are living happy and productive life's. That is what keeps me going.
Do you have someone to go to the appnt with you. I'm in London, Ont. If you are around SW Ont., and need someone, PM me and I'll come running. If not, know that I will be thinking about you. The wine sounds like a very good idea. Please keep in touch.

Kirby, I was diagnosed with mets to bone and liver in early March. My onc started me out on chemo (I had a couple regimens) that kept things stable. Went to MD Anderson and they switched me back to a aromatase inhibitor (like you, I was almost 5 years out and happily on Femara, which clearly stopped working awhile ago without me knowing it)... So I"m on Aromasin. It's possible that instead of chemo, your onc will switch your anti-hormone treatment. Glad your apppointment is so soon. Waiting is one of the hardest parts of this...
Hugs, Paula

Well, shoot, Kirby. I was hunting around to find the results of your PET, and I'm sorry to hear the news. That sucks.

Nash,
I know, I know. I am numb. Just seems like I have done everything right and somehow I find myself with mets. I will know more tomorrow after my appointment with oncologist, but for now you are so right, It sucks.
Thanks for your concern, it means so much. Thanks to everyone else that responded.

Just a correction, went to oncologist today and it is bone and liver mets, not lung.
So will have liver bx soon. Anyone can tell me what that is like? and I know chemo in my future.
-
The liver bx wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. It was very quick and not very painful at all. They gave me something to relax me. It really was more the idea of having to get a liver biopsy that was bothering me than the actual procedure. It is important to get a new path on this cancer. I had liver (several spots) and bone (ribs/hip) mets. I have been NED for over a year now. So have hope!!

That is awesome news Jennifer. Just what I needed to read before I try to sleep tonight.
I am so happy you are doing well! May I ask what your chemo regime was and for how long
xoxo
