Who can recommend a good onc in NYC?
Hi. My sister is looking for a great oncologist in NYC. Does anyone have any experience with Dr. Robert Gelfand?
or Dr. Paula Klein?
or Dr. Anne Moore?
or Dr. George Raptis?
or Dr. Nancy Sklarin?

Hi alexthebunny,
I don't have experience with any of the doctors you named, but I'm sending you a PM (look in your "Private Messages" box on the upper right area of the screen).

I'm not sure about oncologists in New York, but I do know that it would be awesome to get one at Memorial Sloan-Kettering if you wanted to look there. They are the second best comprehensive cancer institute in the US according to the US Health Poll. We tried to get in there, there was just a bit of a waiting list for a second opinion. Good luck, make sure you feel comfortable with your oncologist and what his treatment plan is. Dont' be afraid to ask questions!

I am seeing Dr. Paula Klein. I have only met her once so far but I like her very much. She is smart, straight forward. I have heard incredible things about Anne Moore from many people including a friend of a friend. I think you would be in great hands either way. FYI-Anne Moore is a mid to late 60 ish woman and Paula Klein is in her late forties/early 50's if that means anything to you.
Also, the Saint Vincent's Cancer Center (where Dr. Klein works) is amazing. I think Dr. Moore is at Weill Cornell and I am not sure what their place is like.
Hope this helps.

I'm also helping look for a 2nd opinion onc (NYC) for a woman I met in rads. I think she's Stage I, but am not certain. Keep those recommendations coming!

Hi, I realize this post is 4 years old, but I wondered what your experience was with Dr Klein. I had my surgery at Sloan (MX) andsaw an olcologist there I didn't like so sought a second opinion with Dr Klein. I immediately liked her, but to change would also mean changing hospitals. St Vinents is now Beth Israel. Is it just as good as Sloan Kettering?

A friend of mine wanted me to see Dr. Anne Moore but she didn't take my insurance, so I went to MSKCC on LI where I live (more convenient too). Dr. Moore is at Weil Cornell and I was very impressed with the facility there too. It is convenient to get to, in my opinion and everything is together except for PET scans you need to go to NYPresb. Dr. Steven Malmud is wonderful too, he is at Beth Israel - not so convenient but I guess it all depends where you are coming from (from NJ you may consider easier). Best wishes to you.
