PLease read
I have just found out at my 6 month visit with oncologist, that when they did a cat scan Feb 11 for breast mapping for radiation they foung a 5mm lung nodule enlarged thyroid and 2 cm spot on my kidney. I was to have all these spots followed up, but my radiologist never told me about his report. I only found out last week when on oncologist started rattling off all these things and asked my why I never followed up.. i never new. Now I am scheduled for cat scan and bone scan tomarrow. Now I am a total basket case all over again. i can't even type anymore...so sick and scared.

Please take a deep breath, and try very hard not to think the worst. I know that's not easy, because I had some "findings" too on my CT mapping scan. Lung and thyroid nodule were among them. Here I am just fine three years later, and you have to believe you will be too. It is not uncommon to spot things on scans which turn out to be benign, but they do cause people stress and additional testing. You could have scarring on a lung from a previous cough. I know how stressed you feel now, because I've been there. I always get a copy of the report for all my tests, so I was very surprised about my lung and thyroid nodules, but thankfully they were not serious. I'm hoping the same for you, and please let us know.
I'll be thinking of you.

Tina,
These things may or may not be cancer. Please take a deep breath. Let it ooooouuuuuut. Do it again. Did they do these tests before????? Then they can tell if any of the spots are growing. Its not the end of the world.... really. I have mets all along my spine, my liver (1 spot), lungs (4 spots total), hips and pleural effusions (water on the lung). I'm a 3 and a half year metster. And going strong.

Tina,
I know you are scared, but try not to expect the worst, even though that is our nature. My brother in law just went through something similar. A scan showed 2 nodules on his lungs, he just knew it was cancer since he used to smoke. He went through a couple of terrifying days until the doctor met with him and said she was not concerned about the nodules. They were not cancer and nothing to be concerned about. That is pretty disgusting that the radiologist did not notify you for follow up. Sending you well wishes that everything will be fine. Be positive and trust that you are okay! Good luck tomorrow.

My vote is to fire the radiologist and ask your onc why HE never said anything about it earlier! He gets the reports.... Peace to you,,, Tami

Hi Tina,
Hopefully it is nothing serious - I agree with the above comments that they can find all kinds of spots with these scans - it is not necessarily anything to worry about.
But what a strange comment from your oncologist. Why are you supposed to 'follow-up'? That is HIS/HER job!! You are the patient, not the doctor. You should not have to shoulder any responsibility.
The radiologist should have sent the report (or a letter explaining the results) to the oncologist (or surgeon-depending on who referred you).
Strange.
Hope you will be fine.
Best, Helena.
