Iodine question...

I don't want to overload my liver by taking too many supplements but have the symptoms of low iodine ie., fibrocystic breast and hypo symptoms.

I want to just paint it on and see what it does within 24 hours. Can these be used to treat the problem?

Can the 2% tincture iodine from the pharmacy be used to treat instead of lugols, just by applying and seeing if the body soaks it up?

    Hi gscott,

I just bought a tincture of iodine and am considering painting it on my breasts also. I am curious to see if it might help the cysts that way without taking oral iodine supplements.

The best way to determine your iodine levels is by taking a 24-hour loading test.  I believe breastcancerchoices.org is still offering to reimburse tests taken by breast cancer survivors.

I started by painting a 2" circle on inner arm to see how long it would stay there.  My skin soaked it up like a thirsty sponge.  The iodine solution from the drug store intended for topical use is not a remedy for deficiency.  I asked that when I got my results of my loading test and learned that my absorption rate is lousy even though I'd been taking 60+ mg/day for 5 months at the time.

There's lots of ways to reduce your exposure to toxins.  I loved mt dew when I was a kid.  Drank buckets of it.  Now I'm wondering if I still carry around all the bromide I injested in the process.  I didn't ever think I'd be someone to take a fist full of pills every day, whether they be scrips or over the counters, but I believe now that supplements are important factors in restoring our health.

If you're concerned about your liver health, you could explore the option of some cleansing before launching into a campaign of supplements.  What kind of eating habits do you have now?
