Loral - I think he was on our news yesterday but I also watch Fox News so might have been on there. One nurse said she had reported him I think 2 years ago. Absolutely he needs a special place in hell reserved for him.
I just caught the new page topper. I like Miss 2nd from the right. Taller than anyone else - my dream.
Come out come out where ever you are Dianarose. Hope your absence means you are happily busy pushing those pastries.
-
I want to be the smiling one on the end holding your hand.......Oh such happy times..
-
It was surely a curly hair day.
-
Thankyou for the welcome Elimar and Momine I have been lurking on this site for the past year, I comment once in a while on a number of different threads but I mostly read.
Although it was a year since diagnosis I finished treatment in January and am now 8 weeks past having a hysterectomy so I am still a bit wobbly after 3 separate surgeries and chemo. However I am looking forward to moving beyond cancer (fingers crossed) although I am now starting all of the tests all over again and cannot help but have scanxiety.
-
Hello,
I have been a member on BCO for a while, but just came across this forum a few days ago, and I have to admit I have been lurking. I am usually over at the DIEP 2013 forum, and have learned so much from those wonder strong ladies.
I am kind of in limbo right now. I had my bmx April 1, 2013 with immediate recon with expanders. Almost immediately I was told that because of the placement of my tumors, and the way they had to remove skin and tissue I wasn't left with much to expand. There were some healing issues, and I started to plan for a diep. Around that time they were amazed that my skin was healing so well, and started my expansions to improve the end result of my diep, but when I had the CAT of my abdomen for my surgery two lesions were found on my liver. That's why I say I am in limbo. I am waiting for results of yet another CAT scan with two different kinds of contrast used, which I had yesterday. I get results tomorrow.
I was so glad to come across a forum of women my age (58) that seemed to be having a good time, but still being very supportive of each other. So, I decided to jump in and introduce myself.
-
Sorry I mentioned the lack of posts. Not that I am against welcoming anyone else, just hate the reason that more women need to come here.
Welcome jc and goldie - lots of wonderful women to support, encourage and share experiences with. We laugh, we cry, we yell, we vent, we dance. Often all in the same day.
jc - best of luck with your return to work. It is a bit of a challenge getting back into the swing of things, but if your RTW plan isn't too aggressive you should do ok. Just remember that you are in the driver's seat.
goldie - that limbo dance is not one of the ones that we enjoy doing. Know that we are here for you and with you holding your hand and hoping for good results from your scan - keep us posted.
-
I, for one, enjoy a good limbo damce now and then, but being in limbo over tests is not a good place to be.
Hang in there goldie4040! Welcome to this thread. If it is found that you only have the two spots on the liver, are they condifering a surgery to get rid of them?
-
Hi, Goldie! I admit I mostly lurk here but you're right, these ladies are very funny and supportive, too.
By the way, I last heard from DianaRose on the 8th. She sounded good, just tired. I hope we hear from her again soon! -
I also am mostly a lurker but usually check in a few times a week!
-
previous page I posted Gatsby (Leo Di Caprio) with a tray of drinks for us to toast with, but I don't see it now. Dangnabit!
-
I know I couldn't limbo dance for squat. I've got to go give Miss Itchy otherwise known as Terra the rat terrier her weekly bath. That's as much as I can limbo. Does that count??
Oww - Eph - Leonardo is missing. Maybe he came home with me and that's why no picture there. Hummm - verrry interesting.
-
Welcome lurkers! Hope all waiting for test results get good news, and get it quickly.
Love the page topper. My favorite cousin and her hub are joining us at the shore this weekend. We have such a good time with them, and Diane and I share tons of beach memories from when we were growing up, so the pic was very timely. It actually looks like our moms and their other two sisters! They always had such a good together, and Diane andI have nothing but good memories of them, which we tend to discuss many times during our annual weekend together! Our hubs, bless them, just have their side conversations and let us go on and on. Aaaahhhh...good to have family who are also friends -
Future Shock? When the day comes, (and it will!,) that you end up getting a scan from your "canine oncologist," don't say I didn't give you a heads up:
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/amazing-dogs-sniff-cancer-200800997.html
Too bad the name PET scan is already taken, eh?
-
Why right here you see a "canine technician" performing a CAT scan, and that was only after the LAB report came back.
-
This young lady is being screened for uterine and ovarian cancer, obviously.
-
Hi Ladies, gonna be brief as I need to lay down, I had my first A/C and cytoxin today, doing pretty good a little headache and heartburn so I took some Tylenol and nexium and had a little nausea a bit ago and took the med and it helped😄
Shary🌞 P.S I hope everyone is doing well. -
Hope you are recovering from your chemo well, GG.
I get to have a MRI and a mammo in the morning. Wheeeeeee! NOT!! I hate getting IVs and really stress out about it. If you want to have a reason for a posket party, something to take my mind off the impending needle sticks. Last time it took 4 techs and 7 tries to get a vein. I was ready to leave.
-
Oh, I am the one third from the left. Still trying to find the perfect swimsuit that will hide my thunder thighs.
-
Jcolford--you'll do just fine, I am sure! It is nervous making heading back to work. Give yourself a little time to readjust and you will be right back where you were before, I'm sure.
Loral--serves him right!
Goldie4040--welcome, and here's praying for good results. Limbo land is NOT fun.
-
Last week I had my first mammo. since surgery, I've been waiting for results, got a phone call yesterday, NED both breasts look great...Yeah doing the happy dance today. I wish you all the same results.
-
You think!!!!
-
Meece - what will take your mind off pesky IVs? How about a quiet beach with food and magical no sunburns. In your pocket this morning. Partay hardy ladies.
Loral - yeah for NED.
Shary - hope you have easy plans for today. Hydrate and take nausea meds. Don't know if your chemo combo causes diarrhea or constipation. Constipation is more sneaky. Stay ahead of it since it contributes to nausea. Congrats on having #1 behind you.
Goldie and JC - welcome to our little world not that I would want this disease on anyone. Fly away with any questions.
-
Elimar your pic literally made me laugh out loud thanks it definitely improved my mood. I'm hating facebook right now. To make a long story short I will just post my rant.
My Rant for the day....People (or I mean women) can someone please explain to me how secretly listing your bra size as a trip contributes to breast cancer awareness? If you really want to make a difference join a relay for life team, make a donation directly to cancer research, etc. Breast cancer isn't fun, listing your cup size after a double mastectomy isn't great for a laugh. Sorry to be a spoiled sport but chemo is still really fresh in my mind. You want to help other women - FIND A CURE!!!!
I think I need to jump on my motorcycle and go for a drive - blows the cobwebs out of this old noggin. -
Thanks ladies, yes I am staying ahead of the big constipation so far, taking my anti nausea med's as directed, drank tons of fluids yesterday and peed like a race horse all night😛feeling good today, still a little headache and my tummy is grumbling so I will just keep on the med's eat little bits all day and drink another 2 qts of water. I get my Neulasta shot at 2:00 and I want to check out the cancer resource center in Carson city today, but I will get some reading in too😄

Ah, Luv, that would have been nice. Instead I had them bring a nurse over from the hospital to start my IV. She came in so self assured that she could do it. She tried in the crook of my arm, no luck. She tried in the middle of my arm, no luck. She tried in the back of my hand, no luck. She got a doctor's order to allow it in the top of my foot. No LUCK! Mind you, she was probing around in each location. I finally told her I was getting nauseous, and she thought she had the one in my foot far enough in that if the tech was careful when she in put the contrast in it should work. Well the tech didn't trust her and she flushed it right before we started, and it was not in. So they did my mammo and called a second nurse over from the hospital. She was so sweet, bless her heart (A BC Survivor herself). She thought she found a vein in the fleshy part of my hand between my pinkie and wrist. I really gave her as much opportunity until I couldn't stand it. I finally conceded to letting her carefully try my "Other arm" She got it on the first stick and was super duper careful. So only 3 hours and 45 minutes of torture. I had better not need a follow up scan...
Thank you to all who were with me in thought and pocket!
-
Hey Jeannie, funny meeting you here. Goodie!
Meece, i totally sympathize with your IV problem. I supposedly have small rolling veins. It is amazing to me how somebody really good can get it in right away, and other's keep poking around. Maybe I make them nervous. But, it has come down to I give them a try, or two and then I tell them to stop. I had one tech in the hospital that thought I was kidding. She was sent in to get blood from me in the middle of the night. I told her about my veins, she stuck me once and missed, so she started to go for it again, and I told her no. She told me my doc was going to be angry...lol. Not as angry as me if she came at me one more time.

Hi Everyone, I have missed you all. I have been working 12-15 hour days. I am tired, but a good tired. We are getting busier everyday and we have not advertised yet. It has just been word of mouth. Sold out of everything yesterday. I have changed my Saturday hours from 9-1 and closed on Sundays. It is too much to stay open any more. I will take some pictures today and post them. I do a lunch special everyday. Yesterday was oven roasted chicken breast on choice of bread with home made gravy and seasoned fries. We sold out. If anyone has some ideas for this weeks lunch special please share. The pastries get sold out each day as well. I have to figure out a new system to offer more to increase sales.
Hopefully I can relax tomorrow and get caught up on the posts. Miss you all and hope everyone is doing well. Hugs..... Diana

Diana, that is so great! Glad to hear that it is going well. I do salads of either lentils or chickpeas, with a LOT of veggies added in, usually cherry tomatoes (keep better than big ones), cucumber, avocado, scallion, orange or yellow pepper, all diced and dressed with olive oil, lemon and parsley (I use a huge amount of parsley and mix the dressing in a blender). With a nice roll on the side, it makes a good lunch.
Of course, Greeks do great rolls made with a ciabatta/foccacia-type texture and olive oil as well as EITHER sliced olives OR crumbled feta added into the dough. That would be a great side to a salad like that for a lunch special.
Another thing Greeks do a lot of is, of course, savory pies. Recently I learned the greatest recipe for the crust, that is easier and nicer than fylo. You take one part seltzer, half that amount of olive oil, add a little salt and then as much flour as the dough will hold to make a soft dough. Knead well, let rest half an hour, then roll out each half for the top and bottom of your pie. I use whole wheat flour for this and it comes out nice and tasty.
For the filling, a classic is spinach and a little feta (or other cheese, ricotta could work). You cook the spinach briefly, then squeeze the life out of it, so it is not too wet, add in sauteed onion and garlic, herbs (a little mint is nice as is dill), then take (for a 12-inch pie using 2 punds of frozen spinach) a 6-oz container of Greek yogurt, beat in 2 eggs and work this well into the spinach, add your cheese, and make a few steam holes in the top of the pie. Bake about an hour at 375. Let cool 5 minutes in pan, then remove to a rack to prevent the bottom from getting soggy.

Oh, and another thing: penirli!
Talk about putting McD's out of business. Usually they are just made with cheese and bacon, though, soometimes just lain cheese.
-
Meece that was a needle nightmare!!! Sorry it took so many tries and anguish to finally get the contrast in. You were a real trouper. I might have been walking (limping) out after the foot stick. So when we get the good news of your "all clear," it will make it all worth it, right? Just kind of.
Dianarose, far from nightmare, you have made your dream come true. It doesn't get any better than that! I think you will find out what hours work best for you to have a bakery AND still have some off time for your other joys in life. Momine already mentioned some tasty fare. I was thinking along the lines of "savory pie" myself...maybe some quiches for lunch? I'm sure you make a good crust, and the other ingredients can be whatever looks fresh and good at the market. I like quiches because of the variety. I'm a big fan of homemade soups, but those might be a bigger hit come Fall. So good with a roll or a big slice of toasted peasant bread!
Momine, Maybe it is just me...but your new avatar looks a bit like that woman is serving up some foobs on a platter. Don't get me wrong, that is totally appropriate around here, in a darkly humorous way.
gavinsgrandma, It's no walk in the park, but like so many others, you can do this chemo thing. DO NOT feel like you have to be a Superwoman either. Don't wait to inform your doc if the S/E's start to wear you down. Keep that line of communication very open. The chemo threads on this website have a lot of little tips and tricks to help you get through the process as well.
