Thanks, Momine, I have some steeping in your recipe.  That should mellow them out a little more.  I have to be very careful and peel the thin skins off of them.

luvmygoats, I don't know if you will care for my boy too much once I confess that he also luvs goats and that they are a traditional feast item on Orthodox Easter (which was just last weekend.)  Surprised

Eph, That sense of loss goes on a long time.  I felt it when my husband got his mom a card for Mother's Day and I didn't have anyone to send one to anymore.  Then, when it was my birthday, I really missed getting a card from my mom.  (It's the cards for me because we lived too far apart to have gotten together on those special days.)

Thanks to everyone for their assistance with the rain dance. It has been a nice soft rain all day - just what we need. However, someone must have been doing a snow dance because it isn't near as warm as it has been the last few days. I am NOT going searching for morels or any other sort of fungi until it warms up! Actually had to start the woodstove again tonight. Brrrr

Eli - A wonderful treat for you to have your son home for Mother's Day. It doesn't matter how old they get , they are still our babies aren't they?

Oh Eph, so sorry about your mom, relish those memories. Mother's Day is double sided, I miss mine too.

Eli, don't squeeze him to much or he'll fart lol! My DD takes after her father!

Luvmygoats...thank you for the magic morel macarena dance but I'm freezing over here now....it's turning into snow... so please stick to "tip toeing thru the tulips" ok? Thanks LOL, and Barsco I'm gonna blab about those mushrooms.......

Staynsane, Barsco will need the sleigh to hunt those things down now...

Elimar--your son hand-harvested sea salt?  WOW! Paisley is a Turkish design?  I never knew that. Almost like Christmas at your place!  I bet you're glad to have your Son home, too.

Eph3_12--this Mother's Day is going to be tough for you, all of you.  Having something to do will help, but let yourself cry, too.  I'll be thinking of you.

RoneyKay--I'm sure you mean the Portland, Oregon airport, but all I can think of is the Portland Maine Jetport, where the top floor of the parking garage is open and overlooked by several hotels, not a very private place for a tryst!

Eli, that sounds a total drag to peel olives. If bread is OK for you to eat, just spoon some of the oil they have soaked in onto a small plate, then sop it up with some nice Italian bread. You get the taste and calories, without having to peel the olives.

NativeMainer- who knew that morel mushrooms looked like that?!  Now I do, and thanks for the picture.  They are so distinctive it would be very easy to distinguish them from more common varieties or even "death caps," which look so common I would probably be gathering those up to saute in butter and garlic!

Hugs Eph ... I'll be thinking of you hon, along with all of us who can't say Happy Mother's Day in person  or by phone to our moms. I've been feeling mine a lot lately, maybe 'cause it's my first year as a MomMom. Got beautiful cards from my grandsons ... they write so well for only 3 months and 7 months! Ha :)

Eli, glad ds is home safe and sound. I'm a paisley lover from way back, enjoy!

Native - that picture has me drooling. Can't wait to find some morels.

sns - you would think that they would stand out right? They are sometimes very hard to find as they blend in with the leaves, pine needles, sticks etc on the ground. BUT - once you find the first one, the others seem to magically appear.

Paisley is the name of the village where I live. I always thought it was of Scottish heritage - hmmmmmm - maybe the historians have it all wrong?!

Barsco, Paisley is such a pretty name for a village! Btw.....I don't even want to talk about what your mushrooms remind me of.....must be lots of squirrels digging for "nuts" at your end! Phew, between the middies and the canucks I feel like I'm cross border shopping over here in my jammie's....definitely warming up! Xoxoxo Jo

Happy Mother's Day mothers, others and 'nothers.  Google had a cute interactive animation on their page today, I noticed.

My family seems surprisingly ill-prepared this day.  I don't think I will be getting any crepes.  I didn't hint early enough.

Happy Mother's Day to everyone!  My son bought some pretty pink flowers at the grocery store - he knows I don't think men should spend $100 on flowers from a florist, so this pretty bouquet was $10.  Sweet!

He also helped me do some necessary chores today (like washing the pollen off the screened porch) and then we ordered a pizza. mmmm...

I feel so good because we got so much done - it doesn't take much to make us happy, does it?

I saw that fun Google doodle and played it many times!  Just vary your choices and you get different results.

Have a good week, ladies!  I have a couple of doctor's appointments that I think I'm going to postpone - just because. Tongue Out

Somehow I "lost" this thread off my favorites. whew, I found you all again.

I had a nice Mother's day with my DS. We got some chores done around the house and yard and then he picked up a pizza for dinner. That is his "gourmet cooking". But it made me happy. I am so much easier to please these days. (just like you, hns) He got me a sweet little inside rose bush (probably from the grocery store), he put it on the table and I didn't notice it right away. He had to ask me if I saw anything different in the house. Actually he asked if I had put my contacts in. LOL

lackanookie is gonna keep me laughing for days.

barsco, I lost my morels, morales, morals a long time before  zip lining. It might have reawoken some dare devil activity that has long lain dormant, tho. watch out!!!

mac, how funny!  So this is standard operating procedure among young men, then?  I hope their girlfriends are as easy to please!  I, for one, am worn out from helping my son help me, haha.

"Lackanookie" - oh, I see so many future jokes in my life for that one!

Elimar - that is such a sweet picture up there.  I love seeing Mama (or Daddy) animals with their babies.

Hope everyone's Mother's Day was special. DD#1 stopped by for a visit with a beautiful flat of flowers. She usually gives me a planter full but we decided on something different this year. A mixture that I can plant myself in my own planter & in a flower bed near my back door. I love working (& playing) in the black dirt.

My DD#2 called me & I could hear my grandchildren in the background... Mommy this & Mommy that. She is a wonderful Mommy herself. I unwrapped a beautiful new sofa pillow that she bought for me (I picked it out) the last time we were together. Yes, I kept it until today to open.

DH took me out to dinner Saturday for Mother's Day & for us to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. I don't usually share this sort of information but since it was for the big 4-0, thought I would. 40 years.... seems like forever..... & I don't mean that in a bad way.... but..... don't y'all wonder what it would have been like if you hadn't married... or married the one you did??? Are you happy with your choice?? Believe me, just between us, I have thought about it..... Do these feelings come with being Middies???

DH was going to buy me flowers & I told him not to spend the money on something that dies, I would prefer another type of flowers. My choice: a scarf with beautiful flowers & said, "Now I have flowers that will last forever."

I spent part of Mother's Day in the MRI machine. But DS did accompany me (and slept in the car while I was insde). He did get me a nice certificate for a mani/pedi though. DH surprised me on Fri and had all the dishes done, laundry going, etc and had a chicken on the rotisserie for dinner (with homemade stuffing) - unfortunately he forgot to put a pan underneath to catch the drippings. The bbq caught fire - its on our front porch which has a roof overhead - and the flames were shooting out everywhere. The first thing he could think of was to push the bbq off of the porch and onto the lawn. Needless to say we had pizza for supper.

mac - can't wait to hear of your next adventure! You go girl!

hns -  I, for one, am worn out from helping my son help me, haha. Ya gotta love em don't ya?

Val - 40 yrs? Congratulations. I too often wonder where I would be if I hadn't married my DH - and there were times were I thought I was going to find out. But we have come a long way and I know he loves me with all of his heart. I can't imagine not having our DS also.

Congratulations, Val.  40 years is a quite an accomplishment.

We went to my mother's for dinner on Mother's Day because my son was on call and could not leave the area to come to our home.  His wife came for about an hour and left, but DS2 and his entourage came.  We cooked for my mom, and had a great day.  DH got me a plant and a mani/pedi.  He must have noticed how bad my toes look.  I've been so busy I have forgone the nail polish remover and have layered my colors as needed.  (Not recommended)

Yesterday, I got my crepes after all (made by my DH.)   Then my boys took over...  They still didn't have a plan,so first we took some pictures with each of them wearing their "Mom" shirts (their renditions of my face on a shirt) that they made in pre-school about 20 year ago.  (The faces could not look more different.)

Then, I had them take me to the art museum (you can go through ours in an hour,)  after which we stopped at a nearby flower park (I'm in the "no expensive flowers club" too,) and on the way home we stopped to get Orange Julius, which finally came to my city so it had been about 15 years since I had one of those. Later, my husband made some mahi-mahi and we sat down to a family dinner.  Considering that I probably won't see my older boy on Mother's Day for the next five years (grad. school,) it felt very special and good.

    Love all the pizza stories!

Val, my 36th anniv'y is tomorrow. And I confess to thinking about how life would have been different. Thought it more than once actually! But then I count my blessings, at least till the next time I daydream!

Wow, some long time relationships here!!! Congrats on all the anniversaries.

I am having trouble sleeping again.

I often think of how my life would have been different if I hadn't made some of my choices. But have finally come to the conclusion that I have learned many life lessons and would not have the life I have now without that education. I am truly blessed with two wonderful (most of the time) kids.

barsco, LOL with the flaming bbq. This is when you say it was the thought that counts and thank heaven no one was hurt.

hns, my son said to me this weekend that when he gets married (no prospects yet) his poor wife will have a tough road to hoe. I wisely said nothing. B/c I think it is he that will have to do some compromising (read changing). Ahh, they have their own life lessons to learn. He has just applied to an online grad school so I think he is anxious about it and that is why he was so moody this weekend.

My DD comes tomorrow for a 2 week visit. It is slush season in CO so she has over a month off from work. We'll have some fun. I wonder what adventure awaits..........

Off to BS today to find out about my little lumpy friend. Lots of room for anyone who wants to join in. It's an early one so you might want to bring a coffee. However, lots of time for shopping afterwards in lovely Stratford ON. I love Stratford. If anyone knows Stratford at all you will understand. Home of the Shakespeare Festival.

Hope everyone finds reason to smile today!

marlegal, Wishing you a happy celebration today...Happy Anniversary!  I come from a long line of late bloomers and won't get to my 25th til next year.

Barsco,  I'm up early and going along for the ride.  I might just curl up in a corner of that pocket since I only had three hours sleep last night.  Chemo Day night is the worst for sleeping, what with the steroid dose and then the tubing from that home pump.  Will be anxiously awaiting the benign-ity of your lump.

I haven't checked, but I can imagine ther might be a whole thread about it by now...any thought here about the Angelina Jolie mastectomy announcement today?
