Eph - thanks for that most descriptive ship-trip journal! I am one of those unfortunate sea-sick peeps so I can enjoy only by proxy. I'm looking forward to seeing your photos.
Eli - wtg! doing happy dance for you.
-
Congrats, Dianarose.
Eli, your bloomers are showing. Remember, you are a lady!
Loved the trip description, Eph!

I failed to mention that on Christmas Day, Sister, DD & I all had a teeth whitening treatment in the A.M.
I'm from a family that can get the giggle going where you can't stop; eventually you are gasping for air, snorting and red-faced. Well, Jen & Rachel, went 1st on the whitening as there were only 2 stations. The procedure involved placing this rubber piece under the lips so the teeth were exposed. As I'm sitting there watching, it dawns on me this is VERY alien-ish looking. I start to chuckle, I try to stifle, I gaffaw to self, try to stifle; pretty soon I'm laughing, with no breathing happening. My sister just because she sees me, gets started-not even understanding why I'm laughing-which in turns mortifies DD as we are getting a Beauty Treatment for goodness sake-can't for once we be serious? Which sets me off even more to the point where I am crying. The little gay technician (why are all the boys on the ship gay?) is trying hard to laugh along with us, but of course, I'm the only one who really knows what's so funny, which in turn cracked me up even more!! It was quite the Christmas!
I'm not sure if this is the actual procedure we did, but the view of the gal with her teeth exposed is similar to what caused my hysterics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od_H1qMF9l8
-
Oh Eph - I can just picture you laughing hysterically. And just when you think that you are over it and can explain what's going on.....you break out again.I love it. My sisters and I often get the giggles when we get together also. How wonderful that we have the gift of laughter to keep us sane.
-
So funny. Today, had my first boost with two more to go. The nurse sent me into a panic when she said (after my boost today,) "Oh, you'll be all finished on Monday." "Monday!" I cried, choking back the panic, "Oh, NO! You mean Friday, don't you?" Well, I knew I could NOT be wrong, because I could have told her how many hours and minutes until I would be done. She checked, and Friday it is. Like ANY patient would not know EXACTLY when the last day is. Ha!

Help I need sleep, I've had the flu for 6 days now, 100.7 temp. I don't seem to be getting better. Going to PC Dr. tomorrow. I take Tamoxifen can't take my benedryl anymore. What can I take to get more than 4 hours of sleep. Brain just won't shut down. Thanks LorAll
-
Melatonin, taken 1/2 hour before bedtime. When my mind goes into overdrive, I leave the bed and hit the couch for those Law & Order reruns. For me, there is nothing so mind deadening that reruns I've seen half a dozen times already.
p.s. If you are taking some kind of meds for the flu symptoms, and dextromethorphan is one of the ingredients...that's your insomnia-causing culprit right there.
-
Eli- I am so happy for you that it is almost Friday. Yesterday I spent most of the day doing nothing on the sofa and when I got up today I looked out the window and it was snowing so I went back to bed until 11. I don't think I have slept in like that for 20 yrs. I could have slept all day. I guess the rads have caught up to me. I will see the PS next week and she will fill my deflated boob again. Hurray !!!! It is uncomfortable the way it is.
I am thinking about letting my 13 yr old ( he will be 14 in May ) go to a charter school in the Fall. I am nervous as he would have to board there during the week. The main focus is on Agriculture. He is really into the whole farming thing, just not sure if he is too young to be away all week.
-
Diana, how far away from you is the school? That would be the deciding factor for me as well as the maturity of the soon to be 14 yr old.
-
Diana-with my son just having moved quite a distance away I can empathize with your situation. Although he is 19 it is still tough to let them go. My sisters daughter went to a specialized school when she was 13 for two years. Helped her out a great deal.
-
Eph, my sister and I get the giggles regularly when we're together. I got the giggles reading your post just picturing it...I was right in that room with you!
Eli, two more days - woot woot! Can't wait till Fridays party
Diana, have you researched the school? If it were me, I'd get the names of at least two alumnae and talk to them and their parents. Could be a wonderful experience for your son. Was this his idea? -
Eph - loved hearing about your trip! I want to go ziplining. My father used to make one for us in our yard - from a tree at the highest elevation to one at the lowest. It was usually our birthday party entertainment. My brother went ziplining in the jungles of Costa Rica. He said there really were monkeys in the trees. I wish I had a sister, but I have a friend that I get those good laughs with. We haven't talked in about a month and she called the other day and we started laughing - hard - within 30 seconds.
I love the way laughing is contagious. Once my DH, my brother and I pulled up to a 7-11. The 3 of us were sitting in the front on a bench seat and there was a long line in the 7-11. They were all bored standing in that line, so everyone started watching us. Meantime, in the car we were saying "I'm not going in, you go in" because everyone was staring at us. So we started laughing about that and couldn't stop because they kept staring. Then one or two people in line started laughing because we were laughing. Next thing you know, they were ALL laughing looking at us and we were laughing looking at them. It went on for at least 5 or 6 minutes because this was the ONLY 7-11 out in the middle of nowhere. We finally just drove away, laughing!
-
Diana, I think that if the kid is motivated and wants it, it can be a wonderful experience.
-
Dianarose, At about that age, I would have welcomed the chance to send both of mine off to charter school, boarding school, military school, Hogwart's, whatever... Seriously, it does sound like a great opportunity, subject to his personality, independence, and maturity level. I mention personality as in outgoing, if he makes new friends easily. Will he know anyone there already? If he is the one who has brought this up to you, then I would say if the school has good credentials, go for it.
-
I like to use voice recognition when texting because it speeds things up. My problem is that I am in such a hurry to hit send that I don't proof read the message and sometimes it can be really strange.
Before the wedding, I sent DIL a text that struck me so funny that I still giggle about it. When they arrived I couldn't even talk to her about it without breaking into a fit of laughter. Laughing like that feels good though.
-
so with laughter in mind, here's my Thursday morning offering.
Tom's scrotum
The best story of the year doesn't give the proper praise and credit for this painful but understandable story as told by a loving wife........ Tom's scrotum The Best Story of the Year:
The pastor asked if anyone in the congregation would like to express praise for answered prayers. Suzie Smith stood and walked to the podium. She said, "I have a praise. Two months ago, my husband, Tom, had a terrible motorcycle wreck and his scrotum was completely crushed. The pain was excruciating and the doctors didn't know if they could help him."
You could hear a muffled gasp from the men in the congregation as they imagine the pain that poor Tom must have experienced. "Tom was unable to hold me or the children," she went on, "and every move caused him terrible pain." We prayed as the doctors performed a delicate operation, and it turned out they were able to piece together the crushed remnants of Tom's scrotum, and wrap wire around it to hold it in place."
Again, the men in the congregation cringed and squirmed uncomfortably as they imagined the horrible surgery performed on Tom.
"Now," she announced in a quivering voice, "thank the Lord, Tom is out of the hospital and the doctors say that with time, his scrotum should recover completely." All the men sighed with unified relief. The pastor rose and tentatively asked if anyone else had something to say.
A man stood up and walked slowly to the podium.
He said, "I'm Tom Smith." The entire congregation held its breath. "I just want to tell my wife the word is-------
sternum."
-
I was cringing and I don't even have one of "them"!
Laughed out loud with nobody around to hear. Thanks!
-
Eph great story, I too love spending time with my sisters, we always crack up, right now we have come to love texting, we can get each other going where we can almost see the tears of laughter on messages!!
-
That was hilarious!!
-
haha, Eph! I started laughing when I saw the title!
-
You all crack me up!! I love stopping by here!! Laughter IS the best medicine!! Eph, heartnsoul...great stories!
-
My son does not make friends easily and this is one of the reasons I want him to go to this school. He was diagnosed with asperers last yr and it has been difficult for him since he started school. He is not interested in things other kids are. He is a hands on guy and wants to grow food. He is already building a green house by himself. The kids who attend all have the same interest, farming of some sort. The new school yr is not for 8 months so I have time to go visit and talk to other parents and students. He really wants to go.
Eli- tomorrow is FRIDAY !!!!!! Hurray for you!!!!!!!!!
-
Diana, sometimes an environment like that can be helpful for someone with an ASD because it is orderly and predictable.
-
Meece, we all want to know the text! When I was in FL with a group from BCO we had a pot luck night in someone's condo. At the end of the night I went back to my condo and when I started unpacking I found that I had an extra bowl. So I texted one of the women and said "I have your bowl, do you want it now or can you do without till tomorrow?" Except I did by voice text too and it put balls instead of bowl. Go back and read it again
Eph, do you think Mr. Smith took the time to show her the other when they got home? Ha!
Eli, I'll probably be late coming in tomorrow night, so let me be the first to congratulate you on the LAST treatment - woo hoo! I'll do pics worthy of the occasion tomorrow night when I have a little more time -
Hi, went to Dr. today, I have the flu and pneumonia in my left lung, had to have a chest xray to confirm it. Now I have the Z Pac antibiotic, and Cough syrup with codiene. Also had the Flu shot in Sept., works well. Still taking Tamoxifen hope it doesn't get lost in the body while taking these other meds. I've been off work since last Friday, good thing I went to the Dr. today.......Now I wish I would get sleepy. Not happening yet. Night Ladies.
-
Eli- I want to go to Hogwarts. I need some magic and it would be nice to cast a few spells here and there.
This is the school. www.means-gwh.org
I have to now get his father to agree. That's where the spells would come in handy.
-
Okay, Marlegal, I will try to remember how the text went...Something like...
"Yes, DIL, please bring the titanic pocket square, we might use hem instead." She didn't respond until I retyped the request a half hour later.
"Yes, DIL, please bring the tie and pocket square, we might use them instead." She spent a half hour trying to figure out what a titanic pocket square was and if she actually had one, or perhaps it might be a way she should fold the pocket square for the ringbearer. Mind you, the ringbearer was 16 months old and the pocket square was all of 3/4" x 1 1/2" when folded.
It was very funny to think how she was trying to figure out what it was. Maybe not so funny now, or in writing.
I read Tom's story to my DH and I was in tears trying to read it to him. He didn't think I should be laughing so much at Tom's injury...until the punchline.
-
I'm laughing at Mr. Meece's reaction - glad the story got so many laugh motors going!
Elimar it's close to tomorrow! YAY You!!!!
-
Elimar - Thinking of you today!! Congrats!! I'll be in your pocket! ((Hugs))
Thanks for the chuckles, ladies!
-
It's Friday Eli!!! I thought that I was excited for last Friday (end of my first full time week back at work).
Gonna ditch work today so I can be in your pocket to help you celebrate!
A song just popped into my head - "I just wanna celebrate (yah yah) another day of living!" Let's all dance!
