Janis - Congrats on finishing rads! Now let the healing begin.
LeeAnn - Such goo news - we like hearing those kind of stories.
-
janis, this jump is for you...Hooray! Now, heal skin, heal!

-
Great news LeeAnn, just goes to show that there are really good people out there. Janis, YIPPY for you! "Done" is such wonderful word when it comes to treatments. Kay, here's hoping for a good day today with rads. Celebrate today, no need to wait till the weekend! The kitty happy dance!

-
Yay Janis! Happy day for you!!!

Thank you everyone! I am home and DONE! It was pretty uneventful. Techs thought the burn looks pretty bad and said it may get worse over the next few days. I got a prescription last week for pain meds, but was running low and told them. They went to talk to my MO and he wrote me a fresh script. Maria and Juanita were the best techs! Juanita gave me a small box of fancy chocolotes, so sweet. Maria told me that now I need to go home and stay in for a week, elevate my arm as much as possible and go braless of course. They gave me some more Domeboro soaks to use when it gets 'weepy". I have fresh peeling under my breast now and a nice rash. Still, I am DONE and it is such a great feeling! I am going to try hard to take it easy and focus on healing this up.
Thank you all for being my sounding board, my shoulder, and most important, my friends!!!!
Love and hugs to all,
Janis

Hoping and praying that you heal quickly Janis! Now you can join the After Radiation group...
-
Don't forget 1/2 hydrogen peroxide & 1/2 water soaks for washrags. place over wounded area for about 10 minutes & let air dry. Worked like a charm for me.
Congrats on being done! Do something fun for dinner that doesn't involve you cooking!! You've cooked enough for the day!
-

Janis- You made it!!!! Let the healing begin.
Lee Ann- Glad you are finding a support group that works for you. Teenagers are so fragile in ways and strong in others and each one is different.
Kay I hope today goes better. Hope the LE therapy helps.
-
I hope your treatment goes much better tonight Kay!
-
Yay Janis! You made it!! I am soooo dancing the happy dance for you!!
-
Thanks everyone! I would dance if it didn't hurt LOL! Today the area around my nipple started bleeding just a bit. I was relaxing...but it kept hurting. I went to put some more ointment on it and saw the blood. I am wearing two shirts, a black tank top and an old grey v-neck tee over that. I put my ointment on it as soon as I got home. A couple hours later it was so sore so I went to apply more ointment. The skin is just ceracked enough it opened up. Not bad and I will be FINE. Just really sore right now.
Kay, I am really hoping to hear a positive report about your treatment today! I'll be checking. You have been on my mind all day.
-
Oh my goodness, 521 pages! I read through the first one, but I don't know if I can handle so many more... so I'm just going to jump in the middle here... start where you are, isn't what they always say?
I'm 49 and my name is Esther. Sounds like everyone is congratulating Janis for something wonderful, so I'll add my cheers as well. Hope to get to know you all.
-
Hi Esther,
Welcome to the group, Sorry you have to be here, but it is a really fun and supportive group of women. I have only been here a short time, but they are truly fabulous.
-
Welcome, orangemat! No, despite all those back pages containing some very funny posts, it just is not practical or neccessary to try reading from the beginning. Jumping right in is what you have to do. What surgery did you have? Are you on a hormonal drug now? I like the color of your mat, because if I got messy and dropped some Cheetos crumbs on it, you wouldn't be able to tell!
-
Hi elimar! Let me see if I can get all the abbreviations right... I had a UMX, a NSM with immediate reconstruction. Initial surgery was in May, recon in July. No radiation or chemo necessary, thank goodness, and I'm opting not to take Tamoxifen (my husband says the name sounds like "toxic", so no wonder I don't like the idea of taking it!).
I just got the go-ahead on Monday from the PS to return to practicing yoga (yay!), along with the news that I'll need revision surgery (boo!). Well, not exactly "need" it, but he'd recommend it. My mom had a radical mastectomy 35 years ago (I was 14 at the time). There was no reconstruction or anything, and was told she didn't "need" to have any additional procedures, she was "fine" as she was. She's lived with that regret and bitterness all her life, and I guess that sense of lack of entitlement has been my legacy. But I'm tired of having to settle for what's just "fine". I did tell her today about my news, and she was very supportive of my decision to go ahead and have another operation. I thought she'd tell me it wasn't worth it. Live and learn.
Yes, orange (as in Cheetos) is good. That's my husband's favorite color. Mine is green. Between the two of us, we make all the colors in the rainbow.

Orangemat...welcome to the board, just sorry for the reason you are here. They are congratulating me because I finished raidation today. This is a huge deal! It makes you realize just what a great group of people are here. We always celebrate each other's victories!
Please let us know more about your diagnosis and treatment. You found the best place on earth to come for answers, help, cheers if you are down, and an abundance of love. Great great women on this particular board. We have Elimar to thank for starting it!
-
Janis, we cross-posted...

Well congrats once again! I'm glad to have joined here today on such a momentous occasion!
-
Orangemat....how funny you wrote out all your info and it must have posted about the same time I replied to your original post! It sounds like you are doing great....keep it up. Stick with us though if you need cheer, or lots of laughs!!

-
Congrats to Janis, and hope you heal completely and quickly. Welcome, Esther, this is a wonderful group of women and they will have you smiling every day. Lee Ann, I'm so glad you have been embraced by so many wonderful people. What a difference a day makes, right? And Kay, can't wait to see your post tonight and hoping it was a great session with no glitches. Your story about the young boy in the wheelchair really put things in perspective for me as it did for you.
-
o-mat, You did just fine with the abbreviations.
To reconstruct or not reconstruct is a highly personal choice, and we have ladies here who did and didn't. You know what feels best and looks best for you, so go for it. While you wait for your surgery date, you can hang out with us. Who knows, you might become the thread expert in NSM. I am not sure if any of the women currently posting had that, so we might need to call on your knowledge.
-
Where is poor kay1963 and did they treat her any better today? Let's hope so!!!!
-
Welcome Esther - This is a great group of ladies. Sorry you have to be here with us but you will find a lot of support and good information here.
-
If Kay's treatment was at 8:30, she may not be home yet....
I still can't believe she has to go so late...yuck!
-
Welcome Esther!!
-
