Just had biopsy with this dx, I have 3 aunts diagnosed with breast cancer. 2 have died.

Read in different info that it could lead to cancer. Anyone else with same diagnosis, would you have it removed with lumpectomy if you could choose.

I have papillary apocrine metaplasia. AM is considered a fibrocystic change & totally benign without atypia.  Yes, it can be found near the site of a carcinoma, but so can a lot of things. The key is atypia, or ADH/ALH, both pre-malignant findings.

Since you have aunts with BC, has anyone of them been tested for the BRCA genes? You may wish to consider genetic counseling. How old are you? Any other biopsies?

flower---as Lisa said, apocrine metaplasia is considered a benign condition--I wouldn't have a lumpectomy for that alone--only if atypia or something more serious were found along with it (ADH, ALH, LCIS, DCIS, or invasive bc). Just be vigilant with your breast exams and yearly mammos.
