Why only a mammo and US and not lumpectomy?
Hi all,
My mammogram appt is monday so as it gets closer, my anxiety and questions go up.
I am 44 with celiac disease, anemia and a hx of childhood asthma.
I had a large 4cm lump 1.5 years ago. They did a mammo, U/S then special MRI and told me it was benign. They did not do a biiopsy. My sister was diagnosed at the same time with stage I and I told the surgeon that.
I had insurance at the time and they didn't want to take the lump out.
It is still there, but hasn't got any bigger.
About a week ago I found this other lump similar on the left as the one on the right.
This time I don't have insurance. I got a free breast exam last week and they are going to do a mammogram.
I am afraid of mammograms because of the cancer causing radiation from what I've read. I already know there is a lump there.
What options do I have with no insurance and just want to get right down to it?
Please let me know or PM me.
Blessings!

If you can feel the lump then so can the surgeon- get it out and biopsied- or at least a stereotactic biopsy done-- I don't know how you went this long without knowing for sure.... I would have gone crazy! You might check into Medicaid - Here is hoping all your results are benign! Tami

gscott,
I hope your mammogram went well! I hope it is benign so you won't have to worry anymore and you can get on with living. Let us know how you're doing when you get a chance.

Gscott,
I read on another thread that now your mammogram is scheduled for Aug 25. From your posting history dating back to 2007, it seems that you've been petrified about your breast lumps for almost 2 years now but have yet to be tested/diagnosed?? Seriously? I sincerely hope you do have your mammogram tomorrow so that you can find out that your lumps are benign (I hope so!!!) and you can move on, or you can get a diagnosis and begin treatment and move forward.
Regardless of the treatment you choose, alternative, complementary, or traditional, you need to be DIAGNOSED first. Two years is a really, REALLY long time to be worried sick about the possibility of breast cancer, especially with a family history and not be tested. As someone with a super aggressive tumor that came out of nowhere with absolutely no risk factors and no family history, I urge you to PLEASE follow through and find out what you're dealing with, rather than spending YEARS of your life worrying about what may or may not be.
Please let us know how it goes. We are all hoping for benign results for you!!! -
One has to be assertive and if one doctor is not being more aggressive with a medical situation ,look for another.
Also it is a disservice to many women to state that mammograms can cause cancer, no matter if you read this statement; this rumors can cause a woman to postpone having one.
After all we have our lives in our hands and we have to look for # 1 , that is us; you can go to a free clinic or ER and they will make an appointment to follow your lumps.
