Long lump under arm
Has anyone experienced this. I have a firm (size and shape of a vein) lump I found under in my right arm pit. There is no redness in the area but it is tender when palpating the area. I plan to call the doctor tomorrow. My last mammogram in June was clear but not until I had to return for a call back. Will breast cancer always haunt me? I also got a call from my best friend who went through her own battle with breast cancer this past year and she just received a call back today on her mammogram. This is so unfair.

Is the lump under the arm where you had the BC?
As for the mammograms...I hate that fear too. I had a mastectomy on my BC side, but I have the healthy breast that will forever be monitored. Im contimplating about getting rid of that one too. The anxiety that comes with mammograms are horrible for me.
Call your doc and have her examin you.Sorry about the anxiety.

I think I have what sounds like the same thing. I never noticed it until I was dx with bc 4 years ago. I think you may be seeing some muscle coming through your armpit...I was told that was what mine was....It really scared me, but was just an odd piece of anatomy...Also your decription of "vein-like" sounds like what I have....I sure hope you are worrying for nothing...Best wishes, P

Thank you for your comments. It is on the side I had my breast cancer and I know the lump was not present 1 week ago. I called today and of course my oncologist is on vacation for 2 weeks and they suggested I call the surgeon. The surgeon's office informed me he is on vacation so.... long story short-- I have an appointment with my family practice doctor tomorrow at 4:15. I want to know something before I go on vacation next week. I'm trying not to worry and I'm going to ask for an ultrasound of the area so we know for sure. Great news for my friend today. The call she received regarding her mammogram was to inform her it the mammogram was normal. So she worried and lost sleep for nothing. Why do breast care centers do things like this? Do they not realize calls like this make us panic? When I went for my repeat mammogram in June, the tech did not even know I had a history of breast cancer until I removed my gown and she saw the scar. She was wondering why I was upset. Don't they read the chart? This type of anxiety is not what we need!!!

I'll post my results as soon as I find out. thanks for your prayers and best wishes

I saw my primary care doctor today. He wanted to play it on the safe side so he ordered an ultrasound. I had the ultrasound at 7 pm tonight. The ultrasound tech could tell right away that it was a vein and the radiologist read the results has already read the results. I'm relieved. That is a big worry off my mind. Now I can get on too important things like planning for my vacation next week. I only wonder why I could not feel the vein until now. Cancer sucks!!

Good to know that ! Where are you going for vacation?

We bought a used pop up camper this year and we are going to Chincoteaque/ Assateaque Area. I need to get to the ocean every couple of years and can't wait to feel the sand between my toes. lol
It will be nice to spend some quality time with my husband and two daughters and we all could use the break.

How big was your tumor and what kind of chemo did you have?
-
My tumor was 1.7 cm and was found on a routine screening mammogram. The nurse and doctors at the breast care center were not able to palpate it even when they did an ultrasound and could visualize to tumor. Just another reason why mammograms are so important. I'm very thankful is was found when it was. I had a lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy with 0/3 nodes. Chemo was 4 doses of A/C followed by 12 doses of Taxol over 12 weeks. Radiation followed and I finished all last September. I'm glad this part is done and now I have a head of curly hair.

I just thought I would post here...
On the side that I had my lumpectomy, there is a distinct lumpy "ribbon" from the surgery site up to my armpit. It is tender and it throws the doctoers who feel it until they realize that it is scar tissue on the ligament or muscle. Everyone says not to worry. Hope your got to see your Dr. and everything is okey-dokey!
