What are Mets?

I hope you all do not think I am stupid but what is a met? I see things posted but I am not really sure what they are.

Hello, TheresaMac.  Mets is short for metasteses, the lesions that occur when cancer spreads from the original site.  So, for example you can have breast cancer in places other than the breast, if it metastesizes.  At which point you would have mets to bones, liver, lungs.

It's not a stupid question, not at all.  Somewhere on the index to this forum is a glossary of all the shorthand used here, but I'm not sure where it is; maybe someone else has the link or directions to it.
