Fibroadenoma, post menopausal

Hello, I have completed neoadjunct Chemo, surgery MRM, radiation and only have 1 Herceptin treatment left.  Just had my 6 month follow-up for Mamo of remaining breast and UltraSound of both areas to see 1. if seroma was still present in mastectomy site and 2. in remaining breast because of two round somewhat flattened areas which the Radiologist said were adenoma's (fibroadenoma) which she scheduled a biopsy of on 10 Aug 2009.  I have been post menopausal for 4 yrs.  I know women of all ages can get adenoma's even post menopausal women.  I am concerned about them staying in even if the biopsy is benign.  I know very few are cancerous something like 2.9%. 

So girls that are postmenopausal did your doctor recommend your fibroadenoma be removed, biopsy or what.  Biopsied and removed?

Hi Susie,  I want to be an old woman, too!  (I'm well on my way, I'm 61 now.)  I had my non-cancer breast removed after I completed treatment.  Among other things they found a benign fibroadenoma, 1.2 x 1 x .6 cm mass.  I was curious about it, so did some research.  I found that it is a benign breast tumor that involves glandular and stromal breast tissues.  Doctors recommend that they be removed if you are over 40 years old.  (I was 57 at the time.)  They are rare in post menopausal women except those who are on HRT.  (I had been on HRT for 2 years prior to my diagnosis.)  They're more common in pregnant women or young women.  They are influenced by changes in estrogen levels. Differentiation of adenomas from fibroadenomas is based on the prominent proliferating stromal component and the often elongated and compressed epithelial elements in the intracanalicular variant of the latter.

I cannot tell you what my doctor would have recommended about removal,  this was not seen on mammo, ultrasound, or MRI (I had them all), only was found on pathology after a prophy mast. that I requested. Glad I did.  It was a busy breast.
